#8 Wrestling Earns First at Long Island Open

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The eighth nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team placed first out of fourteen teams in the Long Island Open, hosted by Nassau Community College, scoring 202 points.

BW (5-1, 1-1 OAC) had two place finishers in sophomore 125-pounder Chad Craft (Dayton/Northmont) and sophomore 141-pounder Tanner McHugh (New Ringgold, Pa./Tamaqua).

Placing second in their respective weight classes were junior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference 141-pounder Charlie Nash (Norwalk, sophomore 157-pounder Ryan Orr (Wadsworth), and senior two-time Academic All-OAC 285-pounder James Ritchie (Carlisle).

Sophomore 141-pounder Dalton Leightner (Ravenna/Rootstown), junior Academic All-OAC 149-pounder Nick Sbrocco (Perry),  sophomore 157-pounder Trevor Scherf (Graytown/Oak Harbor), and senior 197-pounder Christopher Head (Massillon/Jackson) all earned third place finishes.

The lone fourth place finisher was freshman 174-pounder Ryan Haas (Toledo/Maumee).

Grabbing fifth place finishes were junior Academic All-OAC 125-pounder Nicholas Berry (Laura/Dayton Carroll) and junior 174-pounder Adam Green (Austintown/Fitch).

Earning a sixth place finish was freshman 197-pounder Dominic Shelley (Mentor).

The Yellow Jackets will hit the mats next on Friday January 4, through the 5, when they compete in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Duals in Lousiville, Kentucky at the Kentucky Expo Center, inside Freedom Hall. Matches are set to begin at 9 am on both days.
