Three First Place Finishers for #5 Wrestling at John Carroll Open

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team competed in the John Carroll Open, inside the DeCarlo Varsity Center.

BW (14-2, 5-1 OAC) was led by sophomore 149-pounder Dalton Leightner (Ravenna/Rootstown) and junior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference 149-pounder Nick Sbrocco (Perry) who each earned first place finishes and 13 points. Leightner won his first two matches by pins of 4:17 and 5:44. He won his semifinal bout with a 23-7 technical fall and his championship bout with a close 1-0 decision. Sbrocco received a first-round bye and won his first match with a 2-0 decision. After winning his semifinal match with a 5-3 decision, he went on to take first place with a 3-1 decision.

Sophomore 125-pounder Chad Craft (Dayton/Northmont) wrestled up a weight class and seized a first place finish, as well as 12 points. Craft won his quarterfinal match by a 15-0 technical fall and is semi with a 7-2 decision. In his championship bout he claimed a 13-2 major decision.

Freshman 285-pounder Jarod Miller (Greenville, Pa./Reynolds) earned a third place finish and 6.5 points after winning his first match with a 1:35 pin. He fell in his semifinal bout to a 10-8 decision and went on to win his third place bout with a 5-0 decision.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday and Saturday, February 22-23 when they travel to Crawfordsville, Indiana to defend their NCAA Division III Central Regional Championship on the campus of Wabash College.  Action is slated to begin on both days at 10 a.m.
