2023-24 Men’s Tennis Season Preview

BEREA, Ohio – Under the direction of veteran head coach Brian Rector '89, the Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team has its sights set on returning to the top of the Ohio Athletic Conference as well as a return to the NCAA Division III National Tournament in 2023-24.

Coach Rector, who is in his 35th season and is the Ohio Athletic Conference and Ohio NCAA Division III winningest men's tennis coach, returns eight letterwinners, three All-OAC players and three Academic All-OAC performers from last year's squad that advanced to the OAC Tournament semifinals and finished with a 12-7 overall record and a 2-4 mark in the OAC. 

Headlining the returners is junior two-time first-team All-OAC and Academic All-OAC player Matt McGee (Ottawa Hills).  In two seasons, McGee has compiled a 29-8 record in both singles and doubles play.  He is a two-time Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar Athlete honoree and a College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team selection 

Joining McGee as the other two returning All-OAC players are sophomore Will Horvath (Oregon/Clay) and Adam Zeidler (Bay Village/Bay).  Horvath, who was a first-team selection, led the team with a 16-2 record in singles action and was third on squad with a 13-3 record in doubles play.  Zeidler, who was an honorable mention selection, finished fourth on the team with a mark of 11-5 in singles action and went 9-3 in doubles play.

Other returners that have seen action on the court for Rector are junior Aidan Hicks (Oneida, N.Y.), junior Academic All-OAC performer Jack Hindman (Avon), junior Austin Kingsley (Northport, N.Y.), junior Tyler Perkins (Geneva), junior Academic All-OAC performer Caleb Reed (Wilmington) and sophomores Gavin Binni (Sylvania /Northview), Joe Donnelly (Lodi/Cloverleaf), Henry Harders (Ottawa Hills) and Jacob Weingart (Tiffin/Columbian).

BW opens the 2023-24 fall portion of its schedule on September 2 and 3 when it travels to Meadville, Pennsylvania to compete in the Allegheny College Invitational.  The Yellow Jackets play their home opener on September 16 when they host a non-conference match against Berea (Ky.) College on the Pop Collins Tennis Courts.

The 2024 spring season begins in February and the annual spring break trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina will take place from March 3-10.
