WHEELING, W. Va. – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team won its spring opener as it defeated Franciscan University in a non-conference match by a final score of 8-1 at the Indoor Tennis Center at Wheeling Park.
BW (3-0) won all three doubles matches and five of six singles matches. Franciscan (0-3) won only one singles match
Doubles
- Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC Matt McGee (Ottawa Hills) and sophomore All-OAC Will Horvath (Oregon/Clay) defeated Travis Mistry and Aaron Heinlein at first doubles by a score of 8-3
- Sophomore Henry Harders (Ottawa Hills) and Jacob Weingart (Tiffin/Columbian) defeated Christopher Yvars and Callahan Hecton at second doubles by a score of 8-1
- Junior All-OAC Aidan Hicks (Oneida, N.Y.) and junior Tyler Perkins (Geneva) defeated Aidan Palladino and David Bourdelais at third doubles by a score of 8-7
Singles
- McGee defeated Mistry at first singles by scores of 6-0, 3-6, 0-3 and retired
- Horvath defeated Yvars at second singles by scores of 6-3 and 6-0
- Sophomore Gavin Binni (Sylvania/Northview) defeated A. Palladino at third singles by scores of 6-3, 5-7 and 1-0 with 12-10 tiebreaker
- Junior All-OAC Adam Zeidler (Bay Village/Bay) defeated Hecton at fourth singles by identical scores of 6-3
- Weingart defeated Sabol at fifth singles by identical scores of 6-2
- Sophomore Joe Donnelly (Lodi/Cloverleaf) fell to Bourdelais at sixth singles by scores of 7-5 and 6-4
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, February 24 when they first travel to Dayton for a non-conference match against Wittenberg University at the Five Seasons Family Sports Club at 1 p.m. Late that night, BW hosts a non-conference match against Berea (Ky.) College at the Medical Mutual Tennis Center on the campus of Cleveland State University at 9:30 p.m.
