Men’s Tennis Splits a Pair Non-Conference Matches on Third Day of Spring Break Trip

HILTON HEAD, S.C. –  The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team split a pair of non-conference matches on its third day of its spring break trip.

BW (8-2) opened the day as it fell to Eastern Nazarene (Mass.) College (2-5) by a final score of 8-1 at the Hilton Head Island Beach & Tennis Resort.  The Yellow Jackets closed out the day as they the defeated Lebanon Valley (Pa.) College (4-5) in a rain shortened match by a final score of 7-0 at Chaplin Community Park.

Against Eastern Nazarene, BW earned its only victory in singles play.

  • Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC Matt McGee (Ottawa Hills) and sophomore All-OAC Will Horvath (Oregon/Clay) fell at first singles by a score of 8-4
  • Sophomores Henry Harders (Ottawa Hills) and Jacob Weingart (Tiffin/Columbian) fell at second doubles by a score of 8-2
  • Junior All-OAC Aidan Hicks (Oneida, N.Y.) and junior Tyler Perkins (Geneva) fell at third doubles by a score of 8-0
  • McGee fell at first singles by scores of 6-2 and 6-3
  • Horvath won at second singles by scores of 6-3 and 6-4
  • Weingart fell at third singles by scores of 6-3 and 6-1
  • Junior All-OAC Adam Zeidler (Bay Village/Bay) fell at fourth singles by scores of 6-0 and 6-2
  • Harders fell at fifth singles by scores of 6-3 and 6-0
  • Sophomore Joe Donnelly (Lodi/Cloverleaf) fell at sixth singles by scores of 6-2 and 6-3

Against Lebanon Valley, the Yellow Jackets won three doubles matches and four singles matches before the rain stopped the final two matches

Results

  • McGee and Horvath won at first singles by a score of 8-1
  • Harders and Weingart won at second doubles by a score of 8-6
  • Hicks and Perkins won at third doubles by a score of 8-3
  • McGee won at first singles by scores of 6-4 and 5-4 before his opponent retired
  • Horvath won at second singles by identical scores of 6-1
  • Sophomore Gavin Binni (Sylvania/Northview) third singles match was unfinished with scores of 6-3 and 5-2
  • Zeidler fourth singles match was unfinished with scores of 6-2 and 5-5  
  • Weingart won at fifth singles by scores of 6-2 and 6-1
  • Harders won at sixth singles by scores of 6-0 and 6-1

BW is back in action on Thursday, March 7 as it closes out its spring break trip with a non-conference match Mary Baldwin (Va.) University at 2:00 p.m.
