OBERLIN, OHIO – The Baldwin Wallace University men's swimming and diving teams was defeated by Oberlin College tonight (Friday, November 2, 2012) in the first round of the Cleveland City Duals in the Carr Pool on the campus of Oberlin.
The Yellow Jacket men, who are now 0-3 overall, fell to the Yeomen, 147-88.
The Yellow Jacket men were led by freshmen Steven Curry (Bloomfield Hills, Mich. /Wylie E. Groves) who won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:51.79 and placed second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.27. Sophomore Bryan Gerber (Sagamore Hills /Nordonia) took first in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:04.21 and captured second in the 200-yard individual medley as he touched the finish line at 2:08.73.
In addition to Curry and Gerber, four other men individuals and one relay team brought home a second place finish. Senior Nathan Brown (Columbia Station/Olmsted Falls) finished second in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:33.23, junior Patrick Donohoe (Columbus/Bishop Watterson) was second in the 100-yard butterfly as he touched the finish line at 59.75, freshman Justin Allison (Napoleon) placed second in the 100-yard freestyle in 51.91 and freshman Nathan Onchuck (Darien, Ill. /Hinsdale South) was runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 23.26, and. The 200-yard freestyle relay team consisting of senior Matthew Zych (Des Plaines, Ill. /Maine West), sophomore Ronny Woodburn (Ashtabula/Edgewood), freshman Paul Rockocy (North Royalton) and Donohoe captured second in a time of 1:40.42.
The Yellow Jackets will travel back to Oberlin tomorrow to face Hiram College in the second round of the Cleveland City Duals in the Carr Pool at 11:00 a.m. Hiram's men and women both fell to College of Wooster in the first round earlier today.
