BEREA, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University Director of Athletics Steve Thompson has announced the hiring of Kayla Caruso, Kari Basiewicz and Cady Newman as athletics trainers.
Caruso, who is a member of the University Hospitals (UH) Drusinsky Sports Medicine Institute, will serve as the head athletic trainer and will cover football men's and women's cross country, and women's basketball. Basiewicz will serves as an athletic trainer and will cover men's and women's track and field, STUNT, and women's soccer. Newman will serve as an assistant athletic trainer and cover football, men's volleyball and women's lacrosse.
Caruso comes to BW after serving as an athletic trainer at Oberlin College for the last five years. While at Oberlin, she was the athletic trainer for the field hockey, men's tennis, women's basketball, women's lacrosse, and women's volleyball teams. Caruso earned a Bachelor of Science in elementary education and teaching from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Science in athletic training from The College of St. Scholastica (Minn.). She is a member of National Athletic Trainers Association, Great Lakes Athletic Trainers Association and Ohio Athletic Trainers Association.
Basiewicz returns to Berea after serving as the associate athletic trainer at Norte Dame College for the past three years. While at NDC, she was the athletic trainer for baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's soccer, men's and women's swimming and diving and women's lacrosse. Basiewicz served as an assistant athletic trainer for the Yellow Jacket football, men's and women's swimming and diving and women's lacrosse teams from 2016 to 2020. She also has served as the assistant athletic trainer for Midpark High School and as CPR Instructor at Polaris Career Center. Basiewicz earned a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology from the University of Northern Colorado and a Master of Arts in education from the University of Connecticut. She is a member of National Athletic Trainers Association and Ohio Athletic Trainers Association.
Newman comes to BW after serving as the assistant athletic trainer for Case Western Reserve University last season. She was the trainer for the Spartan men's and women's cross country, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's track and field and women's volleyball teams. Newman also was an athletic training summer intern for the Cleveland Browns during the 2021 and 2022 training camps. She earned a Bachler of Science in athletic training from Kent State University. Newman is a member of National Athletic Trainers Association and Ohio Athletic Trainers Association.
