Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Split OAC Dual with Ohio Northern on Seniors’ Day

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's swimming and diving teams closed out the home portion of its schedules as it split an Ohio Athletic Conference and Seniors' Day dual meet with Ohio Northern University in the BW Natatorium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

The BW men (9-2, 2-2 OAC) fell to Ohio Northern by a final score of 154-85.  The Yellow Jacket women (9-2, 3-1 OAC) defeated the Polar Bears by a final score of 128-103.

Men's Individual Results

  • Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC stroker Tommie McQueary (Batavia/Bethel Park) won the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:00.22 and the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:02.12
  • Junior freestyler Austin Kingsley (Northpoint, N.Y.) won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:48.17 and was second in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:03.17
  • Sophomore stroker Nolan Szuch (Springboro) won the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:03.11
  • Senior Academic All-OAC stroker Mason Kooyman (Concord Township/Chardon) was second in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 21.82 and second in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 48.45
  • Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC diver Jason Heisler (Saline, Mich.), who is the OAC January Scholar-Athlete of the Month, took second in the 1-meter five dive event with a total of 168.85 points and second in the 1-meter and six-dive event with a total of 260.30 points.

Men's Relays

  • The 200-yard medley team of Kingsley, junior stroker Jason Tafoya (El Paso, Texas), McQueary and Kooyman took second in a time of 1:40.08
  • The 400-yard freestyle squad of senior stroker Grant Doolittle (Tekonsha, Mich./Marshall), senior Gavin Skwirut (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe), freshman stroker Owen Rogonjic (Mentor) and sophomore freestyler Kevin Meyer (Mentor) took fourth in a time of 3:39.32

Women's Individual Results

  • Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC stroker Mallory Dondorfer (Mentor) won the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:20.28 and the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:18.20
  • Senior stroker Athena Pantoja (Ashtabula/Riverside) won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:08.04 and was third in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 59.53.
  • Senior All-OAC stroker Tia Reed (Bluffton, S.C.) won the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:35.58
  • Freshman diver Isabel Hershkovitz (Strongsville) won the 1-meter and five-dive event with a total of 145.90 points
  • Freshman diver Ella Steen (Madison/Painesville Riverside) won the 1-meter and six-dive event with a total of 184.60 points.
  • Freshman freestyler Melina Roberts (Westlake) took second in the 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 11:56.61
  • Sophomore stroker Morgan Ingalls (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) took second in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:23.80
  • Senior stroker Jami Melzer (Bradenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch) took third in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:59.96

Women's Relays

  • The 200-yard medley unit of Dondorfer, Reed, Roberts, and L. Slife won in a time of 1:57.50
  • The 400-yard freestyle squad of sophomore freestyler Emily Kusar (Perry), Pantoja, freshman stroker Lainey McDaniels (Cuyahoga Falls), and sophomore stroker Ariel Lisy (Strongsville) took second in a time of 4:06.13

BW closes out the regular season portion of its schedule on Friday, January 26 when it travels to University Heights for an OAC dual meet against crosstown rival John Carroll University in the Johnson Natatorium inside the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center at 6 p.m.

The OAC Championships hosted by Wilmington College will be contested on February 14 through the 17th at the Ocasek Natatorium on the campus of the University of Akron.
