BW Men’s Golfers Tied for Third on Day 1 of OAC Fall Invitational

COLUMBIA STATION -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's golf team stands tied for third of eight teams on the first day of the 2013 Ohio Athletic Conference Fall Invitational Tournament hosted by the Yellow Jackets at the Columbia Hills Country Club.

BW carded a first-round total of 299 strokes on the par-71 and 6,404-yard layout and is tied for third place with Capital University.  The Yellow Jackets trail first place Otterbein University by 13 strokes and the University of Mount Union by six strokes for second place.

BW was led by All-Ohio Athletic Conference senior Stephen Spalding (Stow/ Walsh Jesuit) and junior Adam Sanders (Fairview Park/ Fairview) who each fired rounds of 73.  Scott Schroeder (Aurora) playing in just his second collegiate event shot a round of 76 and was followed by senior Augie Ward (Medina/ Walsh Jesuit) with a 77.   Rounding out the five-man squad was freshmen Matt Kershner (Independence) with a round of 80.

Playing as individuals, freshman Austin Griffith (Barberton) shot the low round of the day for the Yellow Jackets with a 72.  Senior Chris Nader (Westlake) scored a 74, junior Andy Ingram (Vermilion) and freshmen Colin Greig (Willoughby/ South) each had a 76, junior Cody Lyon (Wadsworth/ Medina Highland) had a 79 and sophomore Connor Duplin (North Canton/ St. Thomas Aquinas) shot an 86.

BW plays in the final round of the OAC Fall Invitational tomorrow with tee times scheduled for 10:00 a.m.   The Yellow Jackets will first travel to Galena on Friday, September 27 to compete in the Capital University Fall Invitational at Royal American Links.   BW will then head to Alliance on Sunday, September 29 and 30 to compete in the University of Mount Union Fall Invitational at Tannenhauf Golf Course and end its fall schedule.
