BW Men’s Golfers Tied for 34th After Opening Round of NCAA Championships

GREENSBORO, North Carolina -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's golf team stands tied for 34th of 41 teams after the opening round at the four-day and 72-hole 2014 NCAA Division III National Championships at the Grandover Resort.

Schreiner (Texas) University is the clubhouse leader with a three under round of 285 followed by Methodist (N.C.) College with a 2-under par round of 286.  LaGrange (Ga.) College was third with a 290, Hope (Mich.) College and  University of Texas-Tyler are tied for fourth with a 291.

The Yellow Jackets carded a round of 321 strokes today on the par-72 and 7,210-yard East Course.  The second round is tomorrow, Wednesday, May 14 on the West Course with the first BW tee time at 8:10 a.m. and the last Yellow Jacket going off at 9:00 a.m.

Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference player Stephen Spalding (Stow/Walsh Jesuit) led BW on day with after firing a round of 76. Freshman Matt Kershner (Independence) had an 81 followed closely by senior Augie Ward (Medina/Walsh Jesuit) and freshman Scott Schroeder (Aurora) each with an 82.   OAC Medalist Adam Sanders (Fairview Park/Fairview) added an opening round 86.

The Yellow Jackets are making their first-ever appearance at the NCAA Division III Championships. BW also won its first-ever Ohio Athletic Conference men's golf title to advance to the NCAA National Tournament.
