GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's golf team ended its first-ever NCAA Division III National Championship appearance as it missed the cut and finished in 36th place after the second round. The 15 lowest scoring teams advanced to the final two rounds at the Grandover Resort.
Schreiner (Texas) University remains the clubhouse leader two-day total of 578 followed by Oglethorpe (Ga.) University with a 582. The University of Texas-Tyler is third with 586 just one stroke ahead of Transylvania (Ky.) University in fourth with 587. The University of Le Verne (Calif.) rounded out the top five with 591.
The Yellow Jackets carded a second round of 316 strokes on the par-72 and 6,770-yard West Course. BW has a two-round total of 637 after shooting an opening round 321 on the East Course. The second round is tomorrow, Wednesday, May 15.
In the second round, freshman Scott Schroeder (Aurora) fired the team low round of 77 and has a two-day total of 159 after. Senior Augie Ward (Medina/Walsh Jesuit) was just one shot behind Schroeder with a 78 and now sits with a 160 after two rounds. OAC Medalist Adam Sanders (Fairview Park/Fairview) had an 80 and has a two-day total of 166. Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference player Stephen Spalding (Stow/Walsh Jesuit) was a stroke behind Sanders with an 81 and leads the Yellow Jackets after two days with a 157. Freshman Matt Kershner (Independence) shot an 82 and has a two round total of 163.
In the opening round, Spalding led BW with a 76. Kershner had an 81 followed closely by Ward and Schroeder each with an 82. Sanders added an 86.
