BW Men’s Golfers Finishes Eighth at Nye Invitational

WOOSTER, Ohio -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's golf team finished eighth of 12 teams at the two-day and 36-hole Nye Intercollegiate hosted by The College of Wooster at the Wooster Country Club.

BW carded rounds of 335 on Friday and 334 strokes on Saturday for a 669-stroke total on the par-782 and 6545-yard Wooster C.C. layout. Denison was the team champion.

In the first round, BW was led by this week's OAC Men's Golfer of the Week and junior Adam Sanders (Fairview Park/Fairview) with a 78.  Following Sanders, senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC player Stephen Spalding (Stow/ Walsh Jesuit) had an 82, freshman Scott Schroeder (Aurora) an 84, freshman Matt Kershner (Independence) a 90 and Augie Ward (Medina/Walsh Jesuit) a 91. 

In the second round, Schroeder fired a 78 for a two-day total of 162.  He was followed by Spalding and Sanders who each ended the tournament with a 166.   Spalding had an 84 in the second round and Sanders shot an 87.  Kershner had an 85 on day two for a 175 while Ward shot a 93 today and had a tournament total of 184.

Playing as individual, senior Chris Nader (Westlake) shot rounds of 92 and 84 for a 186.

BW is back in action on Friday through Sunday, April 25-27 when it travels to West Lafayette to play in the three-day 2014 Ohio Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Muskingum University at the River Greens Golf Club. The winner of the OAC Championships receives an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
