Sanders is Medalist as BW Men’s Golfers Finish Fourth at OAC Spring Invite

GALENA, Ohio – Junior Adam Sanders (Fairview Park/Fairview) earned medalist honors as the Baldwin Wallace University men's golf team finished fourth of eight teams at the two-day and 36-hole annual Ohio Athletic Conference Invitational at the Royal American Links Golf Club.

BW carded rounds of 322 on Sunday and 323 strokes today for a 645-stroke total on the par-72 and 6.859-yard Royal American Links layout. Otterbein was the team champion. The Yellow Jackets finished the regular season in fifth place after the two-event OAC Fall and Spring Invitationals.

Sanders, who is this week's OAC Men's Golfer of the Week, finished first of 44 golfers after firing a first-round low of 73 and a 78 today for a two day total of 151. He was three shots better than his closest competitor at 154.

In addition to Sanders in the first round, senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC player Stephen Spalding (Stow/ Walsh Jesuit) had an 81, freshman Matt Kershner (Independence) with an 83, freshman Scott Schroeder (Aurora) with an 85 and senior Augie Ward (Medina/ Walsh Jesuit) with an 88.

In the second round, Kershner had an 80 for a 163, Schroeder had an 82 for a total of 167 while Spalding and Ward each shot 83 for totals of 164 and 171, respectively.

Also, playing as an individual, junior Cody Lyon (Wadsworth/ Medina Highland) had rounds of 100 and 81 for a total of 181..

BW returns to action on Friday and Saturday, April 18-19 when it travels to Wooster, Ohio to compete at The College of Wooster Nye Intercollegiate Tournament at the Wooster Country Club. The 2014 Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament is April 25-27 at the River Greens Golf Club in West Lafayette, Ohio with Muskingum University hosting.
