BEREA, Ohio -- Baldwin Wallace University senior men's golfer Stephen Spalding (Stow/Walsh/Jesuit) has been selected to the 2014 CAPITAL ONE Academic All-District 7 At-Large team. Spalding now qualifies for the CAPITAL ONE National Academic All-America ballot for NCAA Division III.
This season, Spalding and the Yellow Jackets won the school's first-ever Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championship and advanced to its first-ever NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships. BW missed the cut after the first two rounds of the NCAA Championships and finished 36th of 41 teams.
Spalding, who carries a 3.75 grade point average in accounting, is a four-year letter winner, a three-time Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection, a two-time All-OAC honoree and a three-time OAC Men's Golfer of the Week.
This season, he was second on the team with a 78.63 strokes per round in 23.5 rounds. Spalding had career-low round of 70 in the fall portion of the season at the River Greens Invitational hosted by John Carroll University at the River Greens Golf Club.
At the NCAA Championships, he led the Yellow Jackets with a two-round total of 157 after firing a team-low 76 in the first round and an 81 in the second round.
Spalding ended his career with 77.9 strokes per round average in 90.5 rounds. In addition to his career-low 70 this fall, he had three career-rounds of 71 and one round of 72.
