Women's Soccer Falls Short Against Ohio Wesleyan

DELAWARE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University Women's Soccer team was defeated by Ohio Wesleyan University at the Jay Martin Soccer Complex despite a late comeback effort.

BW jumped out to an early lead thanks to a goal from freshman forward and Ohio Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week Kalyn Rich (Lynchburg/Lynchburg-Clay), but Ohio Wesleyan would go on to score four straight. The Yellow Jackets would battle back, however, after two late goals by sophomore forward Sydni Mudge (Birch Run, Mich.) and junior All-OAC forward Sydney Rice (North Royalton). BW's comeback attempt would come up just short as Ohio Wesleyan would take the 4-3 victory.

BW Leaders (4-2-1)

  • Rice totalled one goal on four shots and added two assists 
  • Mudge scored one goal which was her first of the season
  • Rich scored one goal on three shots
  • Junior goalkeeper Darcy Schoen (Chicago, Ill./Saint Ignatius College Prep) tallied 8 saves

Ohio Wesleyan Leaders (4-2-2)

  • Freshman forward Jordyn Adams scored two goals
  • Sophomore midfielder Tiffany Trinh and junior midfielder Ryan O'Neill each added a goal
  • Sophomore forward Ava Bruns had one assist

First Half (OWU 2-1)

  • 6:38 – Rich found the back of the net early with an assist by Rice
  • 16:53 – Bruns passed it to Adams to put the Bishops on the board
  • 26:42 – Trinh scored off a free kick to extend the Ohio Wesleyan lead

Second Half (OWU 4-3)

  • 48:25 – O'neill scored a penalty kick goal
  • 62:04 – Adams scored her second goal of the night
  • 67:13 – Mudge scored her first goal off an assist by Rice
  • 82:15 – Rice scored a late goal for her first of the night 

The Yellow Jackets take the field again on Sunday, September 24 when they host No. 2 nationally ranked Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.) for a non-conference matchup on Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium at 12 p.m.
