Women's Soccer Bests Oberlin in 2023 Home Opener

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team led by Head Coach Jim Wojtkun defeated Oberlin College 4-1 in the home opener at George Finnie Stadium moving to 3-0 on the season.

BW (3-0) fell to an early deficit but went on to score two goals before the half to take the lead. The Yellow Jackets added to their lead with two more goals in the second half to put them up 4-1 late in the game. Oberlin (2-1) scored its first and only goal just eight minutes into the contest but could not overcome the Yellow Jacket defense who handed the Yeowomen their first loss of the season.

First Half (BW, 2-1)

  • Zoe Garver got things started for Oberlin with a goal at the 8:56 minute mark with an assist from Heather Benway
  • Junior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference forward Natalie Stewart (Blacklick/Gahanna Lincoln) tied it up for BW with an unassisted goal in the 28th minute
  • Junior All-OAC defender Ella Barth (Highland/Mayfield) scored the game winning goal just two minutes later on a free kick at 30:01

Second Half (BW, 4-1)

  • Junior All-OAC forward  Sydney Rice (North Royalton), who is this week's OAC Offensive Player of the Week, scored her sixth goal of the season at the 62:45 mark
  • Playing in her first game at George Finnie Stadium, freshman forward Kalyn Rich (Lynchburg/Lynchburg-Clay) scored in the 83rd minute to put the Yellow Jackets up 4-1

BW is back in action on Saturday, September 9  when they travel to Adrian, Michigan for a non-conference game against Adrian College inside Docking Stadium at 7 p.m.
