BEREA, OHIO - The Baldwin-Wallace College women's soccer team was defeated today (Sunday, August 31, 2008) by SUNY-Geneseo (N.Y.), 3-2, in the consolation game of the Penn State Behrend College Herb Lauffer Invitational Tournament in Erie, Pennsylvania. The Yellow Jackets end their first weekend of play with a 0-1-1 record.
In the consolation match, B-W gained a 1-0 lead at the 26:32 mark when freshman forward Noelle Fox (Canfield) scored an unassisted goal. It was the first goal of her collegiate career. SUNY-Geneseo then scored at the 35:22 mark to tie it at 1-1, and the score remained that way at halftime.
The Red Dragons gained their first lead of the match at 2-1 at the 60:15 mark with an unassisted goal. B-W then tied the score at 2-2 when sophomore midfielder Vickie Dreiling (Boardman/ Youngstown Cardinal Mooney)tallied at the 75:53 mark with an assist from junior forward Natalie Fox (Canfield). But SUNY-Oneonta scored the game-winning goal less than six minutes later for a 3-2 win.
In goal, B-W sophomore goalkeeper Becky Miner (Berea) played all 90 minutes, faced 16 Oneonta shots and made seven saves.
The Yellow Jackets next play on Wednesday, September 3 against Adrian College in Adrian, Michigan in the first game of a women's and men's doubleheader at 5:00 p.m. The B-W and Adrian men then kick off at 7:00 p.m. Next Friday and Saturday, Sept. 5-6, B-W travels to Newport News, Virginia to compete at the Christopher Newport Invitational Tournament.
