Women Lose to Westminster (Pa.), 2-1, in Berea

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College women's soccer team lost to Westminster College of Pennsylvania, 2-1, today (Saturday, September 27, 2008) on Tressel Field pitch at The George Finnie Stadium in Berea. This was the first game of a women's and men's doubleheader. The B-W and Westminster men play at 7:00 p.m.

With the loss, B-W is now 3-3-2 overall and next plays on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 2:30 p.m. against St. Vincent College of Pennsylvania in the opener of a women's and men's doubleheader in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. The Yellow Jacket men play St. Vincent at 4:30 p.m.  With its win, Westminster is now 7-2-1 overall.

Westminster won the battle of shots, 15-8, and corner kicks, 7-5.

Westminster gained a 1-0 lead in the 58th minute of the match when Sarah Nee scored unassisted off a rebound.  One minute later, Nee extended Westminster's lead to 2-0 with her second goal of the game from a Samantha Killmeyer assist.

B-W cut the lead to 2-1 in the 67th minute when senior midfielder Allie Wojtkun (North Olmsted/ Magnificat)scored her second goal of the season on a penalty kick.

In goal, Yellow Jacket sophomore keeper Becky Miner (Berea) faced seven shots and recorded five saves in 90 minutes of action. Westminster goalie, Lindsey Mellott faced one B-W shot on goal and made the save.

After eight matches, sophomore forward Vickie Dreiling (Boardman/ Youngstown Cardinal Mooney) leads the Yellow Jackets in scoring with three goals and a team-high six points.  Wojtkun is right behind her with five points on two goals and one assist. In goal, Miner has played 670 total minutes, is allowing just 1.21 goals per game and has 37 saves and two shutouts.

Following its game at St. Vincent on Sept. 30, B-W then travels to Alliance on Saturday, Oct. 4 to open Ohio Athletic Conference action when it plays rival Mount Union College at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Union Stadium.
