Women’s Lacrosse Falls to #25 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (Calif.)

CLAREMONT, Calif. – In the first of two spring break games on the west coast, the Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team fell 20-0 to 25th-nationally ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (Calif.) on John Zinda Field.

Three different Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (4-0) players netted four goals each between senior attack/midfielder Corie Hack, sophomore midfielder/attack Sally Abel and junior defender/midfielder Emily Cohen. Senior attack Carly Keeney and freshman midfielder Alex Futterman were the only other multi-goal scorers with two goals apiece.

After each team's first few possessions ended in turnovers, the Athenas got on the scoreboard with 27:22 remaining in the first half. BW (2-2) got its first look just under a minute later when senior three-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference attack Hannah Albrechta (Uniontown/Green) sent her shot wide of the net. However, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps kept the offense firing on all cylinders while the defense proved to be stifling. Even though draw controls were fairly even between the two teams, the Yellow Jackets committed 18 turnovers and only took four shots in the half as the Athenas led 14-0 at the intermission.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps returned to the scoreboard with 28:30 on the second-half clock although the offensive pace slowed down with only six additional goals. Senior two-time All-OAC midfielder Megan Patrick (Ravenna/Kent Roosevelt) and junior All-OAC attack Brie Martineau (Strongsville) had the Yellow Jackets only two shots on goal in the period, both of which were saved.

BW will conclude its spring break trip by taking on Occidental (Calif.) College at 7 p.m. EST on W.C. Patterson Field.
