GAMBIER, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season to Kenyon College 20-12 in non-conference action on McBride Field.

Senior three-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC attack Hannah Albrechta (Uniontown/Green), junior midfielder Savanna Jaekle (Lockport, N.Y.) and sophomore midfielder Maddie Ray (Cuyahoga Falls/Akron Revere) each scored three goals apiece for BW (2-1). Junior All-OAC attack Brie Martineau (Strongsville) added two goals of her own.

Senior attack Cassie Hudson-Heck netted a game-high six goals in the win for Kenyon (2-2). Freshman attack/midfielder Maya Fair chipped in four goals while sophomore attack Julia Mahoney netted three goals for the Ladies.

Kenyon opened up strong, winning the first two draw controls to set up the game's first two goals. Ray was quickly able to tie the game, however, by netting two free position goals in a 20 second span. Pace of play slowed down a little but the Ladies continued to click on offense, rifling off an 8-0 run to take a 10-2 lead. Albrechta put an end to the scoring when she netted her first goal of the afternoon with 14:36 left on the clock. The rest of the first half was evenly matched but the Yellow Jackets seemed to have the momentum heading into halftime. BW scored three of the final four goals, including two from Jaekle, for a 14-7 score at the break.

Although Kenyon scored the first goal of the second half, BW opened up a small three-goal run and had cut the deficit down to 15-10 with 22:56 left in the game. The Ladies answered with a 3-0 run of their own to regain an eight-goal advantage. Martineau and Albrechta then scored two minutes apart from each other, making the score 18-12 at the 7:51 mark, before Kenyon finished off the game with a pair of goals itself.

BW will return to action on the west coast on Wednesday, March 6, against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (Calif.) at 10 p.m. EST.
