Russell and Patrick Earn OAC Women’s Lacrosse Weekly Accolades

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC midfielder Maddie Russell (Lakewood/Rocky River) and sophomore attack Megan Patrick (Ravenna/Kent Roosevelt) have been named as OAC Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week. 

Russell has been named as the offensive player of the week for the second straight week and earns her third accolade of the season and her fourth career weekly honor.  She scored eight goals, added three assists, had 11 points, tallied eight ground balls and forced five turnovers as BW remained notched pair of OAC victories last week to remain undefeated in conference play.  Russell opened the week by scoring a career-high tying five goals and had one assist in 12-7 victory at John Carroll last Wednesday.   She finished the week with three goals and two assists in a 18-1 victory against Ohio Northern University last Friday.

This season, Russell ranks among the team leaders on offense as she leads the team in goals (33), second in points (45) and tied for second in assists (12). She anchors the defense with team-bests in ground balls (57), draw controls (45) and caused turnovers (28). 

For her career, Russell is the school's all-time record-holder in ground balls (269), total points (226), draw controls (188), caused turnovers (167) and goals (147).   She is second all-time in assists with 79.   Russell is a three-time All-OAC first-team selection, the 2015 OAC Defender of the Year, a two-time Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association All-Great Lakes Region second-team selection.   She was named the BW Most Valuable Player as a sophomore and the OAC Offensive Player of the Week as a freshman. 

Off the field, Russell is a two-time Academic All-OAC selection, a COSIDA Academic All-District 7 selection, a Dean's List student and a Jacket Scholar.  She is a chemistry major that carries a 3.967 grade point average and is a member of the Chi Sigma Alpha Honor Society. 

Patrick, who earns her first OAC weekly honor, was named the OAC Defender of the Week.   She recorded 16 grounds balls, caused six turnovers, scored four goals and added four assists for eight points last week. Patrick picked up five grounds balls and caused a career-high tying three turnovers with two goals and one assist in the win at John Carroll.  She tallied a career-high 11 grounds balls, caused a career-best tying three turnovers, scored two goals and added a career-high three assists in the victory against Ohio Northern.  

This season, Patrick has recorded 36 grounds balls, 23 points, 16 caused turnovers, 16 goals, seven assists and six draw controls.

For her career, she has appeared in 28 games with 27 starts and has tallied 82 grounds balls, 40 goals, 51 points, 30 caused turnovers, 26 draw controls and 11 assists. 

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Thursday, April 20 when they host their non-conference finale against the College of Wooster on the Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium at 7:30 p.m.   BW returns to OAC action on Saturday, April 22 when it travels to Westerville for a showdown with Otterbein University inside Memorial Stadium at 1 p.m.
