Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Mount Union in OAC Tournament Championship Game

ALLIANCE, Ohio The second-seeded Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team fell to top-seed University of Mount Union in the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Championship game by a final score of 11-8 inside Mount Union Stadium. 

Mont Union (12-4) wins its fourth straight tournament championship and advances to the NCAA Division III National Tournament.   BW (13-4), who was co-regular season champion, will now wait to see if gets an at-large bid into the national tournament.

The Yellow Jackets were led by senior attack Jenna Turner (Carmel, Ind.) as she scored a career-high tying three goals and added an assist for a career-best tying four points.  Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC midfielder Maddie Russell (Lakewood/Rocky River) tallied two goals and added an assist for three points.  Senior All-OAC midfielder Katie Kocher (Rocky River) scored one goal and added a game-high three assists.

The Purple Raiders were led by Katie Elder as she scored a game-high four goals and added one assist for a game-best five points. Alyssa Rydell and Danielle Rohrman each chipped in two goals.

Mount Union jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Rydell found the back of the cage at the 27:57 mark.   BW evened the score at 1-1 when Turner scored of the assist from Kocher at 22:36, The Purple Raiders regained the lead at 2-1 when Rydell scored her second goal of the half at the 21:23 mark.  The Yellow Jackets tied the game at 2-2 when the Turner and Kocher connection hooked up again at 12:27.  Mount Union took the 3-2 lead when Britt Klosterman found the back of the cage at the 11:38 mark.  BW closed out the half on a 3-0 run to take a 5-3 advantage when Russell stole the ball and scored the unassisted goal with five seconds remaining.   The Yellow Jackets scored the final two goals just 13 seconds apart.

The Purple Raiders opened the second half on a 4-0 run to take a 7-5 lead when Elder found the back of the cage at the 23:51 mark.   BW answered with a 2-0 run to tie the game at 7-7 when Turner tallied her third score at 22:27.  Mount Union regained the lead at 8-7 when Rohrman scored at the 16:27 mark.  The Yellow Jackets evened the game again at 8-8 when Russell scored the unassisted goal at 10:15.  The Purple Raiders closed the game on 3-0 run to take an 11-8 lead when Mackenzie Pensyl scored the unassisted goal at the 3:19 mark.
