Russell’s Late Second Half Goals Propel Women’s Lacrosse to OAC Victory Over Capital

BEXLEY, Ohio Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC midfielder Maddie Russell (Lakewood/Rocky River) scored the game's final two goals, including the game-winner with just 42 seconds left in regulation, to propel the Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team to a thrilling 9-8 Ohio Athletic Conference victory against Capital University inside Bernlohr Stadium.

BW (9-2, 4-0 OAC) was led by Russell, who picked up a hat-trick with her game-winner, tallied a game-high tying three goals.  Junior All-OAC midfielder Kayla Miller (Hudson) sophomore attack Hannah Albrechta (Uniontown/Green) each chipped in two goals.  

Capital (7-2, 2-1 OAC) was led by Regan Hanood as she scored a game-high tying three-goals.  Kara Hines contributed two goals.

The Yellow Jackets took an early 2-1 lead when Albrechta scored on a free-position for her second goal of the game at the 17:18 mark.  The Crusaders tied the game for the second time at 2-2 when Hines scored on a free position at 14:18.   BW responded with a 2-0 run to push its lead to 4-2 when Miller found the back of the cage at the 3:11 mark.  After another Capital goal, the Yellow Jackets tallied their final score of the first half when sophomore attack Megan Patrick (Ravenna/Kent Roosevelt) scored on a free position at 1:16.   The Crusaders closed out the first half scoring when Taylor Thomas found the back of the cage with 10 seconds remaining.

BW extended its lead to 7-5 in the second half when Miller scored her second and final goal of the game at the 24:08 mark.  Capital responded with a 2-0 run to tie the game for the third time at 7-7 on unassisted goal by Hanood at 21:36. Both teams would be held scoreless for the next 13 minutes before Korri Titus gave the Crusaders their only lead of the game at 8-7 with 8:34 left to play.   The Yellow Jackets closed out the game on a 2-0 run as Russell found the back of the cage both times including the game-winning goal with 42 seconds left.

BW senior netminder Amanda Getto (Medina) picked up her ninth victory on the season as she faced 15 shot, allowed eight goals with seven saves.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, April 12 when they travel to University Heights for an OAC game against cross-town rival John Carroll University on Wasmer Field inside Don Shula Stadium at 7 p.m.  The next home game is on Friday, April 14 when the team hosts an OAC and Seniors' Day game against Ohio Northern University on the Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium at 1 p.m.
