Women’s Lacrosse Wins Non-Conference Game at Houghton (N.Y.)

HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team posted a 15-6 non-conference victory against Houghton College on Burke Field. 

BW (5-1), which won its first four games this season, was led by senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC attack Maddie Russell (Lakewood/ Rocky River) as she scored a game-high tying four goals and added one assist for five points.  Freshman attack Brie Martineau (Strongsville) tallied a career-high three goals.  Junior attack Caitlin Wheeler (Lake Mills, Wis./Oak Park-River Forest {Ill.}) and sophomore midfielder Megan Patrick (Ravenna/Kent Roosevelt) each recorded two goals.  Senior All-OAC midfielder Katie Kocher (Rocky River) scored one goal and had a game-high five assists for a game-high six points.

Houghton (1-2) was led by Jennifer Zacchinga as she scored a game-high tying four goals.  Chandler Jones contributed four assists.

In the first half, the Highlanders took an early 3-1 lead when Zacchigna found the back of the cage at the 18:47 mark.   BW closed out the opening period on a 9-0 run to take a 12-3 lead into the locker room at halftime as it got its final goal from Miller with three seconds remaining.

Houghton opened the second half on a 2-0 run to cut the lead down to 12-5 on a pair of goals by with Zacchinga with the last coming at the 23:38 mark.  The Yellow Jackets responded with a 3-0 run to push the lead to 15-5 by goals from Kocher, Albrechta and Wheeler with Wheeler's tally coming at 4:48.  The Highlanders closed out the scoring when Marisa Hewes scored at the 2:02 mark. 

BW senior netminder Amanda Getto (Medina) faced 18 shots and allowed six goals with seven saves.

The Yellow Jackets return to action on Wednesday, March 22 when it hosts a non-conference game against Oberlin College on Tressel Field inside The George Finnie Stadium at 7:30 p.m.  Fans can follow all of the action live at http://www.bwyellowjackets.com/x/v0exz.
