Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Kean (N.J.) in Spring Fling Finale

ENGLEWOOD, Fla. -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team closed out the annual Spring Fling by falling to Kean (N.J.) University by a final score of 14-9 at Ann Dever Memorial Park.

BW (4-1) was led by junior attack Caitlin Wheeler (Lake Mills, Wis./Oak Park-River Forest {Ill.}) as she scored a three-goals.  Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference midfielder Kayla Miller (Hudson) and sophomore Megan Patrick (Ravenna/Kent Roosevelt) each added two goals.  Senior All-OAC midfielder Katie Kocher (Rocky River) tallied a game-high three assists.

Kean (4-0) was led by Emily Stasuk with a game-high five goals.  Dani LeSaint tallied four goals while Brittany Ballack and Morgan Graham contributed two goals apiece.

In the first half, the Cougars jumped out to an early 3-0 lead when Ballack found the back of the cage at the 26:56 mark.  After a goal by Yellow Jacket freshman attack Brie Martineau (Strongsville), Kean went on a 3-0 run to take a 6-1 lead on a goal by LeSaint at 19:17.  BW cut the lead down to 6-2 on a goal by Wheeler at the 17:46 mark.   The Cougars responded with a 4-0 run to push their lead to 10-2 when Taylor Hynes tallied the score at 3:44. The Yellow Jackets closed out the first half scoring as it got goals from senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC midfielder Maddie Russell (Lakewood/Rocky River) and Miller but BW trailed 10-4 at the intermission.

Kean opened the second half on a 3-0 run to push its lead to 13-4 when Stasuk scored her fourth goal of the game at the 26:20 mark.  The Yellow Jackets answered with a 3-0 run to cut the lead down to 13-7 when Patrick found the back of the cage off the assist from Kocher at 15:00.   The Cougars got their final goal of the game when Ballack scored her second goal of the game at the 13:07 mark.  BW closed out the scoring as it got two goals from Wheeler with the last coming with three seconds remaining.

BW senior netminder Amanda Getto (Medina) faced 24 shots and allowed 14 goals with 10 saves.

The Yellow Jackets return to action on Friday, March 17 when it travels to Meadville, Pennsylvania for a non-conference game against Allegheny College at 7 p.m.   The next home game is on Wednesday, March 22 when the team hosts a non-conference game against Oberlin College on the Tressel Field inside the George Finnie Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
