Women’s Lacrosse Picked Third in OAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team has been picked to finish third in the Ohio Athletic Conference Coaches Preseason Poll.

BW, who was picked third a season ago, was third of nine teams with 50 points and one first place vote.  Three-time defending OAC Champion the University of Mount Union was picked first with 58 points with five first place votes.   Capital University was second with 57 points and two first place votes.  John Carroll University and Otterbein University rounded out the top five as the Blue Streaks were fourth with 46 points and one first place vote and the Cardinals were fifth with 39 points.  

"We are excited and honored to be selected third in the OAC as we know the conference is shaping up to be extremely competitive this season," stated fifth-year Head Coach Kim Russell.  "We are looking forward to a great season as we will be fielding one of our most talented teams." 

The Yellow Jackets finished the 2016 campaign with an overall record of 11-7 and fourth place finish in the OAC standings with a mark of 4-3.   

Russell returns five All-OAC players, 12 letterwinners and eight starters from last year's squad that advanced to its third consecutive OAC Tournament Semifinals.  She welcomes backs five seniors, four juniors, five sophomores along with five newcomers that will push for playing time.

BW begins the 2017 season on Saturday, February 25 when it travels to Lexington, Kentucky for a game against Transylvania University.  The Yellow Jackets open OAC play on Saturday, March 25 when they host Muskingum University in the first game of a women's and men's doubleheader.
