BW Women End Season With Six Straight Wins

BEREA, OHIO – Senior forward Nancy Coulter (Washington Court House/ Miami Trace) scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds scored as the Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Muskingum University, 85-47, in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center. The victory was BW's season-high sixth straight and extended its seasonal winning streak to 21 consecutive years.

With its win, BW ends its season at 16-9 overall and 11-7 in the OAC. It gave the Yellow Jackets a season sweep of Muskingum and extended their winning streak over the Fighting Muskies to seven straight games and 22 of the past 23 meetings, and increased its all-time series advantage to 42-23.  With its loss, Muskingum ends its season at 7-18 overall and 2-16 in the OAC and lost for the fifth straight time.

In addition to Coulter for BW, senior two-time All-OAC guard Jessica Carpenter (North Canton/ Hoover) and senior transfer guard Amber Boyd (Middleburg Heights/ Regina) each had 11 points. It was a career-high for Boyd. Muskingum was led by senior forward Hannah Nelson's 13 points and senior guard Bridgette Neighbors had 12 points.
 
BW jumped out to a 3-0 lead at the 18:40 mark when Carpenter made a three-pointer. After Muskingum scored to make it 3-2, the Yellow Jackets scored five straight points to lead 7-2 at 15:33 when junior forward Lexi Rohrbach (Tiffin/ Columbian) scored her second straight basket.

The lead grew to 12-5 at 14:03 when senior forward Coulter  made her second straight basket, was fouled and made the free throw.  The Fighting Muskies went on a 5-0 run that was capped when Neighbors made her second trey of the game to make the score 12-10 with 11:56 left in the first period.
BW came right back with a 6-0 run of its own to take an 18-10 lead at 9:04 when Smolik made a short jumper in the lane. After Muskingum made it 18-12, BW closed the half with a 12-0 run, led by eight straight points from sophomore guard Shari Mangas (Leipsic), to lead 30-12 at the intermission.
In the second half, BW continued its run and made it 20-0 to take a 38-12 lead at 18:20 when junior All-OAC guard and leading scorer Jessica Lairson (Louisville) made a steal and drove the length of the floor to score. The Yellow Jackers continued to dominate and led 49-17 at 14:14 when Boyd made a triple.
BW's lead reached a high of 43 points at 68-23 with 6:21 left when Coulter made two foul shots.

Today, Rossman started her 104th straight career game. With her six assists this afternoon, she has 356 to end her career tied with Nikki Altenweg (2002-06) for third all-time.  The victory also was the 466th in the 23-year career of Head Coach Cheri Harrer. She is the second winningest women's basketball coach in OAC history.
