BW Women Beat Muskingum, 63-40, for Fourth Straight Win

NEW CONCORD, OHIO – Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference guard Jessica Lairson (Louisville) scored 13 points and junior forward Lexi Rohrbach (Tiffin/ Columbian) came off the bench to score 13 points and grab a game-high 10 rebounds as the Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team won its fourth straight game and defeated OAC rival Muskingum University, 60-43, today (Saturday, January 12, 2013) in the John Glenn Gymnasium.

With its win, BW is 9-6 overall and 4-4 in the OAC and has beaten Muskingum seven straight times to increase its all-time series advantage to 41-23 overall. With its loss, Muskingum is 6-9 overall and 1-7 in the OAC and lost for the second straight time.
 
Freshman guard Karen Sidwell led the Fighting Muskies with a game-high 14 points.
 
BW got off to an early, 6-2 lead at the 16:20 mark when senior four-year starting point guard Rachel Rossman (Olmsted Falls) made a layup. The Fighting Muskies outscored the Yellow Jackets 5-2 to close to 8-7 at the 14:57 mark when Sidwell made a layup.
 
The Yellow Jackets responded with a 24-0 run to take a commanding, 32-7 lead with 4:56 left when Smolik made a layup. Muskingum senior guard Jendy Weppler ended a scoreless stretch of 10:56 when she scored at the 4:01 mark. It led to a 6-3 mini-Muskingum run as BW led 35-13 at the intermission.
 
In the second half, BW scored the first four points to take a 39-13 lead at the 18:35 mark when two-time All-OAC guard Jessica Carpenter (North Canton/ Hoover) made a short jumper.
 
The Muskies went on a 10-4 run to close the gap to 43-23 with 14:21 left when Jarrett made a jumper. BW responded with its own 7-0 run to lead 50-23 with 12:52 left when Lairson made a jumper. After BW gained its second 27-point bulge, Muskingum outscored the Yellow Jackets 13-6 to close to 56-36 with 2:50 left when senior forward Hannah Nelson made one of two foul shots, but that's as close as the Fighting Muskies would get to BW.
 
The BW women next play on Wednesday, January 16 when they host OAC rival Heidelberg University in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, January 19, the BW men and women will host an OAC doubleheader that will be televised by SportsTime Ohio. The women's game is at 2:00 p.m. and is the Fourth Annual "Take a Kid to the Game" Day.  The men tipoff at 4:00 p.m.
