BW Women Beat Wilmington, 59-51, in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, OHIO -- Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference guard Jessica Lairson (Louisville) scored 10 points as Baldwin Wallace University defeated OAC-rival Wilmington College, 59-51, today (Saturday, February 2, 2012) inside the Fred Razik Arena.

With its win, BW improves to 12-9 overall and 7-7 in the OAC and has won two straight games. With its loss, Wilmington drops to 13-8 overall and 9-5 in the OAC and ended a four-game winning streak.
 
Wilmington was led by junior guard Haley Howard's game-high 20 points.
 
The Quakers got off to an early, 12-5 lead at the 14:51 mark when senior forward Brianna Peters made a layup. It was the first of three seven-point leads and the last occurred at 16-9 with 12:50 left when Howard made a layup.
 
BW came back with a 13-6 run to tie the game at 22-22 at 5:53 when sophomore guard Audrey Smolik (Strongsville) made a jump shot. The lead grew to 26-22 at the 3:38 mark when junior forward Lexi Rohrback (Tiffin/ Columbian) made her second straight basket.
 
BW gained a 30-24 lead 33 seconds before halftime when Rohrbach scored again.  The Jackets held that same lead at the intermission.

After Wilmington cut the deficit to 30-27, BW went on a 12-4 run to build its largest lead at 42-31 with 12:57 left when freshman guard Alissa Munro (Mansfield/ Lexington) made a layup. Wilmington got as close as 51-48 with 2:47 left when Peters made one of two foul shots.
 
The Yellow Jackets closed the game on 8-2 run to build its lead back to 59-50 with 48 seconds left when senior two-time All-OAC forward Jessica Carpenter (North Canton/ Hoover) made one of two foul shots.
 
BW is back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 6 when the Yellow Jackets host OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center in Berea.  The BW women also will play host to Marietta College next Saturday, Feb. 9 in Berea at 3:00 p.m.

On Saturday, February 16, the BW women and men host OAC-rival Muskingum University in a doubleheader in Berea. The twinbill will be taped by S&S Video Productions and televised by regional cable TV network SportsTime Ohio. The women's game will air on Saturday night at 11:00 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 17 at 4:00 p.m. and Monday, Feb. 18 at 5:00 a.m. The men's game will air on Saturday night at 9:00 p.m., Sunday at 2:00 p.m. and Monday at 7:00 a.m. BW has televised more of its athletics events on regional cable television than any other small college in the country.
