BW Women Lose to No. 20 Ohio Northern, 64-42

ADA, OHIO –Senior All-OAC guard Jessica Carpenter (North Canton/ Hoover) scored seven points as the Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team falls to the No.20-ranked Ohio Northern University Polar Bears, 64-42, tonight (Wednesday, December 5, 2012) in the ONU Sports Center.

With its loss, BW is 3-2 overall and 0-1 in the OAC. With its win, ONU is 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the OAC. The Yellow Jackets plays next on Saturday, December 8 in the second game of an OAC doubleheader at Capital University at 4:00 p.m.  The BW and Capital men play at 2:00 p.m.

In addition to Carpenter for the Yellow Jackets, freshman guard Alissa Munro and junior forward Natalia Simovic each had six points. The Polar Bears were lead by Morgan Dumbaugh.

ONU got off to an early, 3-0 lead at the 19:09 mark when senior forward Morgan Dumbaugh hit a three pointer.  The Polar Bears  went on a 6-0 run that ended at the 14:51 mark to extend the lead to 14-7.  BW went on a 13-4 run in a span of 4:46 and took its first lead at 20-18 at the 9:05 mark when freshman guard Alissa Munro (Mansfield/ Lexington) hit a three-pointer.

ONU regained the lead when  junior forward Cenzie Yoder split a pair of  free throws at the 7:32 mark and took a 21-20 lead. The Yellow Jackets countered when senior  All-OAC guard Jessica Carpenter (North Canton/ Hoover) drained a three-pointer at the 4:15 mark for a 28-26 lead. The Polar Bears  took a one point lead at the 3:25 mark when senior point guard Katie Mengos hit a three-pointer making the score 29-28.  ONU closed the half on a 6-1 run to lead 35-29 at the intermission.  

The Polar Bears opened the scoring at the 19:03 mark in the second half when senior forward Joanna Synder made a shot from inside the key making the score 37-28. The Polar Bears would go on to score the first 17 points of the second half to lead 52-29 with 11:39 left in the game. BW ended the Polar Bear run at the 9:40 mark when freshman guard Allyson Helleis (Rocky River) made a layup.  

The Yellow Jackets went on a 6-0 that was capped off when senior guard Megan Frisina (Corry, Pa./ Corry Area) made a jumper at the 4:42 mark making the score 56-41.  But that was as close as BW could get to ONU.    
 
Following its game at Capital this Saturday, BW is idle for a week and during the Fall Semester final exams. The Yellow Jackets open the home schedule on Saturday, December 15 versus Wilmington College in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center at 3:00 p.m.
