Softball Sweeps Wilmington in OAC Opener

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team opened Ohio Athletic Conference action as it swept Wilmington College in a doubleheader inside the Wilmington Softball Complex.

In game one, BW (10-8, 2-0 OAC) scored nine runs on eight hits as it plated one run in the second and eight in the fifth.  Wilmington (10-7-1, 0-2 OAC) was held scoreless for the first time this season on three hits.

At the Plate

  • Senior Academic All-OAC center fielder Lexy Coggins (Vermillion/Firelands) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two runs batted-in (RBIs)
  • Six other Yellow Jacket hitter tallied a base knock led by senior catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark), sophomore first baseman Gillian Ryser (Hubbard) and sophomore shortstop Lucia Wolford (McDonald) as the trio each had a double
  • Wolford had two RBIs while senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC second baseman Emily Mau (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights), sophomore designated player Maddie Lester (Boardman) freshman third baseman Mia Maddamma (North Royalton), Bricker and Ryser each added an RBI

In the Circle

  • Junior right hander Marisa Hall (Paris/East Canton) won her fifth game of the season as she did not allow a run on three hits with six strikeouts and a walk

In game two, BW scored seven runs on season-high tying 14 hits as they plated two runs in the third, one in the fourth and two each in the sixth and seventh.  The Quakers scored four runs on seven hits as they pushed two runs across the plate in the fourth and seventh.

At the Plate

  • Mau went 3-for-4 with a run scored, three RBIs and a stolen base
  • Ryser went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBU
  • Bricker went 2-for-3 with a walk
  • Sophomore left fielder Macaira Fox (Massillon/Tuslaw), sophomore right fielder Steph Mraz (Strongsville), Coggins, Lester, Maddamma, and Wolford all added a base knock
  • Wolford tallied three RBIs, which gives her 10 in her last three games

In the Circle

  • Hall got the no decision as she allowed two runs on four hits with one strikeout and one walk in three innings pitched
  • Lester won her third game of the season as she pitched the final four innings and allowed two runs on three hits with three strikeouts and six walks

BW is back in action on Wednesday, April 3 when it hosts an OAC doubleheader against Ohio Northern University on the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex at 3 p.m.
