Spencer Wins 500th Career Game, Softball Splits Non-Conference Doubleheader with Wooster

BEREA, Ohio -- Baldwin Wallace University Head Softball Coach Tom Spencer won his 500th career game as the Baldwin Wallace University softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with The College of Wooster on BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex.

Spencer, who is in his 20th season in Berea and 25th overall year, now has a career record of 500-464-2 at his coaching stops of BW, NCAA Division I Butler (Ind.) University and NCAA Division II Notre Dame College.  He now has a record of 380-341-1 as the manager of the Yellow Jackets.

In game one, BW (8-8) scored five runs on eight hits as it plated two runs on the 2-run blast by sophomore first baseman Maddie Lester (Boardman) in the first, one in the third on the solo shot by Lester, and two in the fourth, including one on a homer by senior All-OAC catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark).  Wooster (7-11) scored eight runs on 11 hits as it pushed five runs across the plate in the third and three in the sixth.

At the Plate

  • Lester went 3-for-4 with two homeruns, three runs batted-in (RBIs) and two runs scored
  • Bricker went 2-for-3 with a homer, run scored and RBI
  • Three other Yellow Jacket hitters had a base knock led by senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC second baseman Emily Mau (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) with a double

In the Circle

  • Junior right hander Marisa Hall (Paris/East Canton) took the loss as she allowed eight runs (four earned) on 11 hits with six strikeouts and one walk

In game two, BW scored 10 runs on 12 hits as it plated two runs in the second, four in both the fifth and sixth innings.  The Fighting Scots scored eight runs on 12 hits as they pushed three runs across the plate in first and fourth innings and two in the seventh

At the Plate

  • Senior Academic All-OAC center fielder Lexy Coggins (Vermillion/Firelands) went 3-for-3 with two doubles, one run scored and a career-high three RBIs
  • Sophomore shortstop Lucia Wolford (McDonald) went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored, a career-high five RBIs and a walk
  • Sophomore right fielder Steph Mraz (Strongsville) went 2-for-3 with a run scored
  • Five other hitters tallied a base knock

In the Circle

  • Junior righty Taryn Welty (Medina/Wooster) earned her second win of the season as she allowed two runs on six hits with one strikeout in the final three innings
  • Sophomore righty Maddie Lester (Boardman) made the start and go the no decision as she allowed six runs on six hits with one strikeout and two walks

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday, March 29 when they travel to Wilmington for an OAC doubleheader against Wilmington College inside the Wilmington Softball Complex at 1 p.m.
