Softball Earns Doubleheader Split with Whittier (Calif.)

WHITTIER, Calif. – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Whittier College on Charles and Marie Palmer Softball Field

In game one, BW (4-2) scored three runs on seven hits as it plated two runs in the first and one in the fifth.   Whittier (4-2) scored 11 runs on 12 hits as it pushed three runs across the plate in the first inning, two in the second, two in the third and fourth in the fifth.

At the Plate

  • Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC second baseman Emily Mau (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) went 2-for-3
  • Sophomore right fielder Steph Mraz (Strongsville) went 2-for-3 with a stolen base
  • Three other Yellow Jacket hitters had a base knock led by doubles from sophomore designated player Maddie Lester (Boardman) and freshman third baseman Mia Maddamma (North Royalton)

In the Circle

  • Junior right hander Marisa Hall (Paris/East Canton) suffered the loss as she allowed six runs (five earned) on six hits with two strikeouts in two innings pitched
  • Junior righty Taryn Welty (Medina/Wooster) pitched the final 2.1 innings and allowed five runs (three earned) on six hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

In game two, BW scored seven runs on a season-high 14 hits as it plated two runs in the second, one in the third, two in the fifth, one in the sixth and one in the seventh.  The Poets scored six runs on 10 hits as they pushed three runs across the plate in the second, two in the fourth and one in the sixth.

At the Plate

  • Sophomore shortstop Lucia Wolford (McDonald) went 3-for-4 with a run scored and run batted-in (RBI)
  • Senior Academic All-OAC center fielder Lexy Coggins (Vermillion/Firelands) went 2-for-3 with a double, run scored, RBI and walk
  • Sophomore left fielder Macaira Fox (Massillon/Tuslaw) went 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored
  • Lester went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI
  • Mau went 2-for-5 with a run scored
  • Three other Yellow Jacket hitter had a base hit led by the game winning RBI double from senior All-OAC catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark)

In the Circle

  • Lester earned the victory as she allowed six runs on 10 hits with two strikeouts and three walks

BW is back in action on Wednesday, March 6 when it travels to Redlands, California for a non-conference doubleheader against Redlands College on the Redlands Softball Field at 3 and 5 p.m.
