BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team swept Ohio Northern University in a rescheduled Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader on the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex.
BW (18-12, 8-4 OAC) and Ohio Northern (20-12, 9-4) were originally scheduled to play on April 3 but due to inclement weather the games were rescheduled for today.
In game one, the Yellow Jackets played their first extra inning affair as they scored four runs on five hits as they plated three runs on three run blast by senior All-OAC catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) in the sixth and the game winning run on the base hit by sophomore shortstop Lucia Wolford (McDonald) in the eighth. The Polar Bears scored three runs on nine hits as they pushed one runs across the plate in the first, fifth and seventh innings.
At the Plate
- Bricker went 1-for-2 with a homerun, run scored, three runs batted-in (RBIs) and a walk
- Wolford went 1-for-4 with a run scored and RBI
- Senior Academic All-OAC center fielder Lexy Coggins (Vermillion/Firelands) went 1-for-3 with the game winning run scored
- Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC second baseman Emily Mau (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) went 1-for-4 with a stolen base
In the Circle
- Junior right hander Marisa Hall (Paris/East Canton) won her ninth game of the season as she allowed three runs (two earned) on nine hits with six strikeouts and no walks.
In game two, BW scored four runs on seven hits as it plated all four of its runs in the first, including two on the two-run bomb off the scoreboard by Bricker. Ohio Northern scored two runs on eight hits as it pushed both of its runs across the plate in the sixth.
At the Plate
- Mau went 2-for-3 with a triple
- Sophomore first baseman Gillian Ryser (Hubbard) went 2-for-3 with a double, run scored and RBI
- Bricker went 1-for-2 with a homer, run scored, two RBIs and a walk
- Sophomore right handed pitcher/designated player Maddie Lester (Boardman) went 1-for-3 with a double
- Wolford went 1-for-3 with a run scored and RBI
In the Circle
- Lester won her sixth game of the season as she allowed two runs on six hits with four strikeouts and one walk in 5.1 innings pitched
- Hall recorded her third save of the season as she did not allow a run on two hits with one strikeout in 1.2 innings pitched
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, April 27 when they travel to Bexley for an OAC doubleheader against Capital University inside the Clowson Field Complex at 1 p.m.
