Softball Shuts Out No. 21 Redlands (Calif.) in Game One, Drops Second Game

REDLANDS, Calif. – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with No. 21 nationally ranked University of Redlands on the Redlands Softball Field

In game one, BW (5-3) scored six runs on 10 hits as it plated four runs in the fourth inning, one in the fifth and one in the seventh.  Redlands (10-3) was held scoreless for the second time of the season on runs on five hits with five errors.

At the Plate

  • Sophomore shortstop Lucia Wolford (McDonald) went 3-for-4 with a run scored and run batted-in (RBI)
  • Seven Yellow Jacket hitters recorded a base knock led by the three RBI double by sophomore first baseman Gillian Ryser (Hubbard)
  • Sophomore designated hitter Maddie Lester (Boardman) added a double

In the Circle

  • Junior right hander Marisa Hall (Paris/East Canton) earned her second victory of the season as she did not allow a run on five hits with four strikeouts and one walk

In game two, BW scored three runs on six hits as it plated one run in the first off, the solo shot from Lester and one in the sixth. The Bulldogs scored eight runs on 10 hits as they pushed five runs across the plate in the first, one in the fourth and two in the sixth.

At the Plate

  • Lester went 1-for-3 with a homer, run scored and RBI
  • Sophomore right fielder Steph Mraz (Strongsville) went 1-for-2 with a run scored
  • Freshman third baseman Mia Maddamma (North Royalton) went 1-for-2
  • Freshman pinch hitter Addison Siedler (Mentor) picked up her first career hit and RBI in the seventh inning
  • Senior pinch hitter Grace Bowman (New Windsor, Md./Linganore) had a base knock in the seventh
  • Freshman pinch hitter Maggie Richards (Strasburg/Strasburg-Franklin) recorded her first collegiate hit in her only at bat in the seventh

In the Circle

  • Freshman righty Shelby Morris (Centerburg) took the loss as she allowed eight runs (seven earned) on 10 hits with two walks

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday, March 8 when it travels to Pomona, California for a non-conference doubleheader against Pomona-Pitzer College on Wig Beach Field at 4 and 6 p.m.
