Softball Drops Home Opener to Calvin (Mich.)

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team dropped a rescheduled non-conference doubleheader to Calvin (Mich.) University on the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex.

In game one, BW (7-7) scored three runs on nine hits as it plated one run in the fifth and two in the seventh.  Calvin (13-3) scored six runs on 10 hits as it pushed three runs across the plate in four and sixth innings.

At the Plate

  • Sophomore shortstop Lucia Wolford (McDonald) went 2-for-4 with a triple
  • Seven other Yellow Jacket hitters had a base knock led by senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC second baseman Emily Mau (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights), senior All-OAC catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) and sophomore left fielder Macaira Fox (Massillon/Tuslaw) all the trio each had a double
  • Fox had two runs batted-in (RBIs)
  • Mau had a run scored and RBI

In the Circle

  • Junior right hander Marisa Hall (Paris/East Canton) took the loss as she allowed six runs (four earned) on 10 hits with nine strikeouts and one walk

In game two, the Yellow Jackets scored one run on five hits as they plated their lone run in the fourth inning.  The Knights scored two runs on four hits as they pushed both of their runs across the plate in fifth.

At the Plate

  • Mau went 2-for-4
  • Senior Academic All-OAC center fielder Lexy Coggins (Vermillion/Firelands), sophomore first baseman Gillian Ryser (Hubbard) and Bricker all went 1-for-3
  • Coggins had an RBI

In the Circle

  • Sophomore righty Maddie Lester (Boardman) suffered the loss as she allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits with three strikeouts and one walk

BW is back in action on Thursday, March 28 when they host a non-conference doubleheader against The College of Wooster at 3 p.m.
