Coggins Walkoff Propels Softball to OAC Doubleheader Sweep of Marietta

BEREA, Ohio – Senior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference center fielder Lexy Coggins (Vermillion/Firelands) hit a walkoff game-winning single in the bottom of the seventh in the second game of an OAC doubleheader to give the Baldwin Wallace University softball team a sweep over Marietta College on the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex.

In game one, BW (12-8, 4-0OAC) scored eight runs on nine hits as it plated five runs in the fifth and three in the third.  Marietta (7-12, 1-3 OAC) was held scoreless on three hits.

At the Plate

  • Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC second baseman Emily Mau (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) went 3-for-3 with a run scored, run batted-in (RBI) and two stolen bases
  • Six Yellow Jacket hitters had a base knock led by senior All-OAC catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark), sophomore right fielder Steph Mraz (Strongsville) and sophomore short stop Lucia Wolford (McDonald) with a double each

In the Circle

  • Junior right hander Marisa Hall (Paris/East Canton) won her sixth game of the season as she did not allow a run on three hits with six strikeouts and one walk

In game two, BW scored four runs on seven hits as it plated one run in the sixth and three in the seventh.  The Pioneers scored three runs on six hits as they pushed two runs across the plate in the fifth and one in the seventh.

At the Plate

  • Coggins went 2-for-4 with a run scored, the game-winning RBI and a walk
  • Five other BW hitters had a base knock led by Bricker with a triple and sophomore designated hitter Maddie Lester (Boardman) with a double
  • Wolford went-for-1 with two RBIs to tie the game in the seventh and three walks
  • Bricker added an RBI

In the Circle

  • Hall won her first back-to-back games of the season as she allowed three runs on six hits with six strikeouts and three walks

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Sunday, April 7 when they travel to Delaware, Ohio for a non-conference doubleheader against Ohio Wesleyan University on Margaret Sagan Field at 1 p.m.
