Softball Sweeps Heidelberg in Rescheduled OAC Doubleheader

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team swept Heidelberg University in a rescheduled Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader on the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex.

BW (16-10, 6-2 OAC) and Heidelberg (9-21, 2-8) were originally scheduled to play on April 17 but due to inclement weather games were rescheduled for today.

In game one, the Yellow Jackets scored seven runs on 13 hits as they plated three runs in the first, one in the second, one in the fourth and two in the sixth.  The Student Princes were held scoreless for the third time of the season on three hits.

At the Plate

  • Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC second baseman Emily Mau (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and walk
  • Sophomore designated player Maddie Lester (Boardman) went 2-for-3 with two runs batted-in (RBIS)
  • Senior Academic All-OAC center fielder Lexy Coggins (Vermillion/Firelands) went 2-for-4
  • Sophomore first baseman Gillian Ryser (Hubbard) went 2-for-4 with a RBI

In the Circle

  • Junior right hander Marisa Hall (Paris/East Canton) picked up her eighth win of the season as she allowed no runs on three hits with eight strikeouts and three walks.

In game two, BW scored nine runs on 11 hits as it plated five runs in the second and four in the fifth.  Heidelberg scored one run on three hits as it pushed its lone one run across the plate in the first

At the Plate

  • Coggins went 2-for-3 with a run scored, two RBIs and walk
  • Mau went 2-for-3 with a run scored and RBI
  • Ryser went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs
  • Senior catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook park/Berea-Midpark) went 2-for-3 with a run scored and RBI.
  • Sophomore shortstop Lucia Wolford (McDonald) went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI

In the Circle

  • Lester earned her fifth victory of the season as she allowed one run on three hits with four strikeouts and four walks

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, April 20 when they travel to Westerville for an OAC doubleheader against Otterbein University on Rike Field at 1 p.m.
