BW Men's Swim Team Beat Hiram in Cleveland College Meet

OBERLIN, OHIO – The Baldwin Wallace University men's swimming and diving team defeated Hiram College, 232-196, in the second round of the Second Annual Cleveland College Dual Meet Championships at Oberlin College.  BW opened the tournament last night by losing to The College of Wooster.

The scoring for the meet was a combined team score instead of separate men's and women's scores.

The men were led by sophomore Justin Allison (Napoleon) who won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 22.80 and the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.30. Junior Bryan Gerber (Sagamore Hills/Nordonia) placed first in the 400-yard IM in a time of 4:43.25 and the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:23.85. Freshman Jacob Burk (Bowling Green) placed first in the 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 10:35.50. The 400-yard medley relay team consisting of freshman Basem Magd (Fort Washington, Md./Grace Christian Academy), Gerber, sophomore Nathan Onchuck (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South), and Allison won in a time of 4:10.94.

In addition, Onchuck placed second in both the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle in times of 23.48 and 52.74, respectively. Sophomore Nick Mossing (Napoleon) took second in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:02.27 and the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:16.37. Senior Bryan Hitch II (Lakewood) placed second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:49.49. Junior Sean Rudolph Jr. (Warrensville Heights) took second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:29.48. The 400-yard freestyle relay team consisting of Mossing, Magd, Hitch, and sophomore Henry Hammond (Cleveland Heights) placed second with a time of 4:02.01.

Following today's second round at the Cleveland College meet, BW is off until Saturday, Nov. 9 when it competes in the third and final round. The next home meet is on December 14 when BW hosts Ursuline University in a women's-only dual meet in the BW Natatorium in the Lou Higgins Center at 12:00 noon.
