BEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin Wallace University Head Football Coach John Snell '88 has been honored by the Greater Cleveland Football Coaches Association (GCFCA) with the Golden Deeds Award.  The award is presented annually to people and/or organizations that have made significant contributions to high school football in Northeast Ohio and to the activities of the GCFCA.

"Receiving the Golden Deed Award is certainly an honor," said Snell, who will begin his 12th season at BW this fall. "It is a bigger honor to have the privilege of serving student-athletes at the high school level and our profession.  This award is more about having the opportunity to help high school football student-athletes than anything else."

"We are very proud of John for receiving this award," added Athletic Director Kris Diaz '78.  "He has been and continues to be an outstanding representative of Baldwin Wallace, both as an alumnus and its head football coach.  We take great pride that he represents this institution to the GCFCA and to high school football in the area."

Snell is 71-41 (.634) in 11 seasons as the Yellow Jackets' head coach.  The Albion, N.Y., native, is 29 wins shy of becoming the fourth coach in school history to amass 100 career wins.  BW is the only NCAA Division III school with three coaches who have won 100 or more games.  Ray Watts won 104 games from 1928-48; Lee Tressel '48 won 155 games from 1958-80, including the 1978 NCAA Division III national championship; and Bob Packard won 156 games from 1981-2001.  Each coach was mentored by his predecessor.
