No. 15 BW Falls To No. 1 Mount Union

BEREA, OHIO – The No.15-ranked (American Football Coaches Association poll) Baldwin Wallace University football team falls to No. 1-ranked University of Mount Union 38-7, today (Saturday, November 3, 2012) in an Ohio Athletic Conference game on Seniors' and Parents' Day on Tressel  Field at The George Finnie Stadium. 
With the loss, the Yellow Jackets are now 7-2 overall and 6-2 in the OAC and travels to Tiffin to play Heidelberg University next Saturday with a chance to finish second in the OAC. With its victory, Mt. Union improves to 9-0 overall and 8-0 in the OAC and clinches a tie for its 21st straight OAC title.
The game was scoreless after one quarter, Mt. Union led 21-7 at halftime and 31-7 after three periods.
Offensively for BW, senior CAPITAL ONE Academic All-District 7 QB Ryan O'Rourke (Avon) completed 18-of-29 passes for 160 yards and one touchdown. The receiving corps were led by junior All-OAC WR Josiah Holt (Elyria/Grafton Midview) and senior tight end Josh Masters (Akron/Archbishop Hoban). The defense was led by junior linebacker Michael Stacchhiotti (Girard) with a game-best 12 tackles.
 
Offensively for Mt. Union, sophomore quarterback Kevin Burke completed 17-of-22 passes for 202 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. He also ran the ball 11 times for 27 yards. The running game was led by senior running back T.J. Lattimore who ran for a career-high 131 yards in 16 attempts. In addition, seniors Blair Skilliter ran for two TD's and Jake Simon had one. The receiving corps was led by senior wide receiver Jasper Collins who caught seven passes for 81 yards and a TD. In addition, senior WR Julius Moore also had a TD catch. The defense was led by freshman linebacker Hank Spencer with 11 tackles.
In the first quarter, BW kept the Mt. Union offense off the field and outgained the Purple Raiders 87-20 in yards and the Yellow Jackets ran 25 plays compared to eight for Mt. Union.

In the second quarter, BW got on the scoreboard first when an O'Rourke pass intended for Masters deflected off Masters hands and was caught by junior NCAA Division III track All-American and wide receiver Kevin Johnson (Maple Heights/St. Ignatius) caught it at the six yard line and ran it into the endzone for a touchdown at the 13:36 mark. Junior placekicker Chris Mohler (Kent/Roosevelt) kicked the point-after-touchdown for a 7-0 lead. BW's drive was 10 plays and 80 yards in 5:04.
Mt. Union came right back and drove 75 yards in seven plays and tied the game at 7-7 at 11:24 when senior RB/CB Blair Skilliter ran 14 yards to the endzone and senior PK Tyler Almeida booted the PAT.
The Purple Raiders took a 14-7 lead at the 6:15 mark when Skilliter scored on a 4-yard run and Almeida booted the PAT. Mt. Union's drive was 6 plays and 49 yards and was setup by an interception by senior middle linebacker Charles Dieuseul. The lead grew to 21-7 at the 4:29 mark when Burke threw a 52-yard strike to senior WR Julius Moore and Almeida booted the PAT. The score was the first play following a BW punt.
In the third quarter, Mt. Union extended its lead to 24-7 at the 4:10 mark when Almeida made a 27-yard field goal to cap a 12-play and 48-yard drive following a BW punt. The lead grew to 31-7 at the 1:42 mark when senior RB Jake Simon ran 2 yards to paydirt and Almeida kicked the PAT. The drive was 5 plays and 29 yards and followed a BW fumble that was recovered by Mt. Union senior All-American safety Nick Driskill.
In the fourth quarter, Mt. Union upped its lead to 38-7 with 13:19 left when Burke threw 6 yards to senior WR Jasper Collins and Almeida kicked the PAT. It capped a 5-play and 73-yard drive.
