Masters Scores Game-Winning Touchdown in Overtime

NEW CONCORD, OHIO -- Senior tight end Josh Masters (Akron/ Archbishop Hoban) caught a game-winning 22-yard touchdown pass in overtime as the No. 10-ranked (AFCA poll) Baldwin Wallace University football team came from behind to beat Muskingum University, 13-6, today (Saturday, September 22, 2012) in McConagha Stadium. 
 
With its win, BW is 3-0 overall, 2-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference and has won four straight games dating back to last season. With its loss, Muskingum is now 0-3 overall, 0-2 in the OAC and has lost seven straight to the Yellow Jackets
 
Offensively for BW, senior quarterback Ryan O'Rourke (Avon) completed 13-of-31 passes for 166 yards with one touchdown. Senior All-OAC running back Tyler Lohr (Kent/ Roosevelt) led the running game with 46 yards in 17 attempts. Masters led the receiving corps as he had five catches for 58 yards and the game-winning touchdown. The defense was led by junior linebacker Michael Stacchiotti (Girard) and senior safety Tom Goebel (Parma/Padua Franciscan) with six tackles apiece.
 
Offensively for Muskingum, junior running back Anthony Frye rushed for a game-high 67 yards on 15 carries. Sophomore linebacker Alex Simmoms led the Fighting Muskie defense with game-best 11 tackles.
 
In the first quarter, BW opened the scoring at 3-0 when junior placekicker Chris Mohler (Kent/ Roosevelt) connected on a 22-yard field goal to cap off a Yellow Jackets 13-play and 50-yard drive at the 8:20 mark. Following an interception, the Muskies drove 62 yards on seven plays to score the go ahead touchdown when wide receiver Wes Rataiczak caught a 17-yard pass from quarterback Jerry Manukin but the extra point was wide left to push the score to 6-3 at 1:13.
 
After a defensive battle, the score remained 6-3 after three quarters of play.
  
In the fourth quarter, BW tied the game at 6-6 when Mohler made a 23-yard field goal with 9:51 left in the game. The field goal capped off a 13-play and 59-yard drive, and was his second of the game. The defensive struggle continued for the rest of regulation as the scored stood at 6-6, heading into overtime.
 
In the first overtime, BW scored on the first possession as O'Rourke connected on a 22-yard pass play to Masters for the game-winner. Mohler tacked on the extra point. On the Muskingum possession, the BW defense stood strong as it had two pass breakups and a sack to secure the victory.
 
The Yellow Jackets are back in action next Saturday, Sept. 29 when it hosts OAC-rival Otterbein University on Shriners' Day at 1:30 p.m.
