TODAY'S GAME --  The 18th-ranked (AFCA/ American Football Coaches Association poll) Baldwin Wallace University Yellow Jacket football team hosts Marietta College on Professor Appreciation Day.

The Yellow Jackets enter this game 6-1 overall record and a 5-1 OAC record following a 39-16 victory in Bexley last Saturday (Oct. 20) versus Capital University at Bernlohr Stadium. BW has beaten Bluffton University (45-13), John Carroll University (32-28), Muskingum University (13-6 in overtime), Ohio Northern University (22-20), Wilmington College (49-17) and Capital (39-16) but lost to Otterbein University (38-17).

Marietta enters this game with a 0-7 overall and 0-6 OAC record following a 13-12 loss at Wilmington College last Saturday and have lost eight straight dating back to last year.

SERIES NOTES --  The Yellow Jackets and Pioneers have played previously 34 times with BW leading the all-time series, 29-5, with five straight victories, including a 17-7 triumph a year ago in Marietta. The last Marietta victory occurred during the 2006 season when the Pioneers claimed a 37-31 win in overtime in Marietta. During BW's current five-game winning streak, the Yellow Jackets have outscored the Pioneers, 159-51. The all-time series began in 1974 with BW winning, 73-0, with former The Ohio State University Head Coach Jim Tressel serving as the Yellow Jacket quarterback that day.

LAST MEETING -- Last year, the Yellow Jackets defeated the Pioneers, 17-7, at Don Drumm Stadium in Marietta. BW led 3-0 at halftime and Marietta grabbed a 7-3 lead after three quarters before the Yellow Jackets scored 14 unanswered points in the final stanza to claim the win. B-W ran for 199 yards and had 291 yards of total offense compared to just 151 for Marietta. Leading the way on offense was current senior All-OAC running back Tyler Lohr (Kent/Roosevelt) who rushed 18 times for 112 yards and a touchdown and Willie Jackson carried the ball 18 times for 119 yards. Current senior QB Ryan O'Rourke (Avon) completed just 8-of-25 passes for 92 yards, was sacked twice and threw a career-high three interceptions. Graduated All-OAC defensive end Derron Hamilton led BW with a game-high 11 tackles, including 4.5 for loss and 3.5 QB sacks.

Scouting the Yellow Jackets  -- Offensively, the Yellow Jackets average 31.0 points and 367.0 yards of total offense per game, including 187.7 yards rushing and 179.3 passing yards. O'Rourke runs the offense and has completed 83-of-152 passes for 54.6 percent for 1185 yards with 13 TD's and six interceptions. He also ran the ball 40 times for 55 yards and two TD's. In addition, sophomore Michael Slack (Casselberry, Fla./Pine Castle Christian Academy) and senior Andrew Dziak (Maple Heights/Padua Fransiscan) also see action in the "wildcat" role. Slack is 3-of-6 passing for 32 yards and has rushed for 186 yards in 32 attempts with three TD's. Dziak, who also sees plenty of action at safety on defense, has completed 5-of-6 passes for 38 yards and has rushed for 85 yards in nine attempts. In the backfield, Lohr combines with sophomores Sebastian Zuluaga (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast) and Nolan Sordyl (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) and freshman Isaac Reed III (Lehigh Acres, Fla. Lehigh). Lohr tops the team with 318 yards in 73 attempts with two TD's. Zuluaga is second with 281 yards in 64 attempts with two TD's. Reed is fourth with 170 yards in 26 attempts with one TD. Sordyl, who is utilized near the goal line, has 98 yards in 23 trips with two TD's.  The receiving corps are led by WR's Josiah Holt (Elyria/Grafton Midview) and Gabe Adams (Hudson). Holt has a team-leading 32 catches for 551 yards and five TD's. Adams has nine grabs for 109 yards. The line is anchored by senior Academic All-OAC tackle Clay Wolf (Parma Heights/Padua) and junior guard Jason Cook (Streetsboro)

Defensively, BW allows 19.7 points and 312.1 yards of total offense per game, including 131.9 rushing and 180.3 passing yards. BW has forced its opponents into making 12 turnovers for a plus-4 (+4) in the giveaway-takeaway category. The line is led by returning senior All-OAC tackle Max Wagner (Mentor) and senior end Joe Fitch (Elyria/Elyria Catholic). Fitch tops all linemen with 25 tackles and leads the team with nine tackles for loss and 4.5 QB sacks. Wagner has 16 tackles. Junior MLB Michael Stacchiotti (Girard) tops all tacklers with 55 stops and is followed by senior Academic All-OAC safety Tom Goebel (Brunswick/Padua) with 38 tackles with one interception and one fumble recovery, junior safety Zach Barley (Hudson) with 33 tackles and three interception, senior Academic All-OAC LB Nick Milano (North Royalton/Padua) with 33 tackles, senior LB Brian Ellis (Ft. Mitchell, Ky./Dayton) with 29 tackles and one interception and Dziak with 22 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and three QB sacks.

On special teams, Holt and starting CB Kevin Johnson (Maple Heights/St. Ignatius) are two of the best kickoff return men in Division III. Most teams either kick short or kick away from them. Holt averages 30.3 yards in seven returns and has three career kick return TD's. Johnson averages 30.9 yards in seven attempts with one TD this season and two in his career. Junior CB Kory Gillissie (Parma/St. Ignatius) and senior backup WR Pat LaGuardia (Brunswick/ Padua) return punts. LaGuardia tops the team with a seven-yard average in 12 returns. Junior placekicker Chris Mohler (Kent/Roosevelt) is solid and has connected on 25-of-26 in PATs and made 6-of-9 field goals for 43 points to rank first on the team in scoring. Junior Matt Harmon (Canfield) is the punter and averages 35.8 yards per punt with nine landing inside the opponent's 20-yard line.

BW's Last Game -- The Yellow Jackets defeated Capital University, 39-16 at Bernlohr Stadium last saturday. BW led 7-6 after one quarter, 10-9 at halftime and 23-9 after three periods. Offensively, BW outgained the Crusaders on the ground, 308-71, and in total yards373-245. Senior QB Ryan O'Rourke, sophomore QB Michael Slack, senior RB Tyler Lohr and sophomore RB Sebastian Zuluaga led the Yellow Jacket offense. O'Rourke completed 7-of-15 passes for 49 yards with two TD's as he threw a 4-yard TD pass to senior TE Aaron Manders in the first quarter and 12-yard scoring strike to senior TE Josh Masters in the fourth stanza. Slack rushed for 66 yards on 14 attempts and scored on TD runs of 13 yards in the third period and six yards in the final quarter. Lohr led all rushers with 86 yards in seven attempts and his 66-yard TD jaunt in the third quarter broke the game open. The defense was led by junior MLB Michael Stacchiotti and senior safety Tom Goebel as each had six stops, and junior safety Zach Barley had a pair of interceptions. The win was BW's seventh in its last eight games dating back to last season.

Scouting the Pioneers  --  Offensively, Marietta averages 13.4 points and 249.7 yards of total offense per game, including 24.7 rushing and 225.0 passing yards. Senior QB Tom Fulton is the key to the offense as he has completed 122-of-255 passes for 1,543 yards for 47.8% with 11 TD's and 12 interceptions. Freshmen Lucas Havens and Tom Hinkle have each appeared in three games and are a combined 3-of-12 passing for 32 yards. The top receivers are juniors Kirby Harris, Tannon Roberts and Linard Williams and senior Sean Munfield. Harris has 40 catches for 583 yards and four TD's. Roberts is second with 28 grabs for 423 yards and two TD's. Williams and Munfield are tied for third with 17 receptions. Williams has 17 for 163 with a team-high five TD grabs. Munfield has 17 for 278 yards. Senior Tevin Dones is the "feature RB" and he has 158 rushing yards in 56 attempts. Marietta does not have a rushing TD in 2012.

Defensively, the Pioneers are led by their linebacking corps. Junior ILB Jake Hammer is the top tackler with 76 stops. Freshman OLB Joe Ortega is second with 37 stops. Senior Kadeem Corbin is first with 5.5 tackles for loss and second with 3.0 QB sacks. On the front line, DE Gaston Hayes tops MC with 3.5 QB sacks and has 17 total tackles. Senior DE David Olach has 1.5 sacks and 22 total tackles. In the secondary, junior free safety Robert Brown is fifth with 30 tackles and first with two interceptions.

On special teams, freshman Conor Durina is the PK and Munfield handles the punting duties. Durina is 10-of-11 in PAT kicks, nut just 4-of-12 in field goal attempts for 22 total points. Munfield averages 37.5 yards per punt in 41 attempts with three landing inside the opposition's 20-yard line. Kirby Harris and sophomore Charles Dixon return kickoffs. Harris averages 21.5 yards in 13 returns and Dixon averages 21.0 yards in seven attempts. Dixon also returns punts and averages 22.3 yards in nine attempts.

Marietta's Last Game -- The Pioneers lost to Wilmington College, 13-12 at Williams Stadium on Last saturday.  Quaker PK Max Gabbard connected on two fourth quarter field goals, including the game-winning 35-yarder with 31 seconds left to give Wilmington its first win of the season and keep Marietta winless. Despite the loss, Fulton led the Pioneer offense as he completed 23-of-48 passes with a TD and an interceptions. He completed seven passes to Munfield for 106 yards. He threw five to Tannon Roberts for 68 yards, including 12-yarder for a TD in the third quarter that gave the Pioneers a 12-7 lead. Linard Williams and Kirby Harris each caught four passes. The running game was led by Tevin Dones with 39 yards in 20 attempts. The defense was led by Jake Hammer with 11 tackles.
