Baldwin-Wallace College OT Brett Scarl Named as a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete

BEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin-Wallace College senior offensive tackle Brett Scarl (North Olmsted) has been named as a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete. Scarl will be honored at the annual NFF dinner on April 26, 2010 at LaCentre in Westlake, Ohio.

"We are pleased that Brett will be honored by the National Football Foundation," said eighth-year Head Coach John Snell. "He is a fine student, excellent football player, a great team-leader and will be an outstanding representative of the College for many years to come.  The honor is very well-deserved."

Scarl, a six-foot and four-inch tackle, will graduate this spring with a degree in accounting and finance. He holds a 3.2 grade point average, plans to attend graduate school next fall and plans to be a Certified Public Accountant.

Scarl had a solid career as a collegian. He was awarded the B-W Dick Van Almen Outstanding Lineman award (2009-10) and was named as a second-team All-Ohio Athletic Conference player (2008) and honorable mention All-OAC pick (2009). He earned three varsity letters and served as a team captain as a senior.  Scarl also was selected to play in the inaugural www.ohiocollegefootball.com Senior Bowl that will take place on April 17, 2010 in Columbus, Ohio.

As a freshman in 2006-2007, Scarl played on the junior varsity as an offensive tackle. As a sophomore in 2007-2008, he saw significant time at offensive tackle on the varsity team, started a few games at left tackle and earned his first varsity letter.  As a junior in 2008-2009, Scarl played in his third season of football and earned his second letter.  He was the starting left tackle for an offense that ranked second in the OAC in yardage (378.6 ypg.) and third in scoring (25.6 ppg.). As a senior in 2009-2010, Scarl played in his fourth season of football. He started all 10 games at left tackle for an offense that ranked third in the OAC at 200.5 rushing yards per game.
