Quarterback Anthony Gardner is Baldwin-Wallace College's Cleveland Touchdown Club MVP

BEREA, OHIO --  Baldwin-Wallace College senior quarterback Anthony Gardner (Rocky River/ Lakewood St. Edward) is this year's Yellow Jacket Most Valuable Player to the annual Cleveland Touchdown Club awards dinner in February or March. He recently ended a four-year career as one of the most prolific passers and all-around athletic QBs in school history.

The two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference player (2008 and 2009) and B-W Ray. E. Watts Most Valuable Offensive Player (2009), completed 444-of-746 career passes for 5,258 yards and 34 touchdowns and ran for 828 yards and 10 more TD. Gardner's 444 completions, 5,258 passing yards, 6,086 yards of total offense and 44 total TD rank third all-time in school history behind B-W Hall of Famer John Koz (Lakewood) and former Yellow Jacket standout Dan Larlham (Walsh Jesuit). He additionally established several single-game records.

Gardner transferred to BW from Ohio University and the University of Hawaii. After graduating from high school in the spring of 2005, he attended Hawaii in the fall of 2005, transferred to B-W for the winter of 2006, went to OU in the summer of 2006 and then back to B-W for the fall of 2006.

As a B-W freshman in 2006-2007, Gardner played his first season of college football. He served as a backup quarterback and earned his first varisty letter. He completed 30-of-68 passes for 371 yards and two TD. B-W finished 7-3 overall.

As a sophomore in 2007-2008, Gardner lettered for the second time and split the QB duties with then senior Mickey Mental (Olmsted Falls). He completed 54-of-107 aerials for 796 yards with six TD and was the team's second leading rusher with 353 yards and two TD. He had a season-best game through the air when he passed for 228 yards and a TD at John Carroll University on September 29. B-W finished 6-4 overall.

As a junior in 2008-2009, Gardner played his third season of football and was the starting quarterback. He earned OAC Offensive Player of the Week honors against Muskingum on Oct. 18 when he completed 21-of-28 passes for 330 yards and three TD and ran for 14 yards with TD runs of one and four yards. Gardner went on to complete a career high 190-of-298 passes for a career-high 2,318 yards and career-high 14 TD. He also ran for 141 yards in 122 attempts with five TD and accounted for 19 total TD. For his efforts, he earned honorable mention All-OAC honors. Gardner also set a school single-game record with 462 yards of total offense against Franklin (Ind.) College on Sept. 6, 2008 when he threw for 381 yards and ran for 81 more. His 28 completions that game was also a school-record for a single game. His 2,318 passing yards on the season were 135 shy of the school record set by Koz in 1993. B-W finished 5-5 overall.

As a senior in 2009-2010, Gardner played in his fourth season of football and was the starting quarterback for all 10 games. He also served as a team captain. He completed 62.3 percent (170-of-273) of his passes for 1,773 yards with 12 TD and rushed for 370 yards and three more TD. In his final game as a Yellow Jacket, he passed for 240 yards and three TD and rushed for 104 yards and another score. For his efforts, Gardner was the Watts award winner and named an honorable mention All-OAC selection for the second straight season. B-W finished 3-7 overall.
