Baldwin-Wallace College Football Team Falls at #19 Ohio Northern, 49-6

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College football team lost to Ohio Athletic Conference rival and 19th-ranked (www.d3football.com) Ohio Northern University, 49-6, today (Saturday, October 31, 2009) in front of 1,378 fans at Dial-Roberson Stadium in Ada, Ohio.

With the loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 2-6 overall and 2-5 in the OAC and next play on Saturday, Nov. 7 when they host Wilmington College on Senior's Day in Berea. ONU is now 6-2 and 5-2 in the OAC.

ONU led 7-0 after one quarter, 28-0 at the half and 35-0 after three quarters.

In the first quarter, ONU opened the scoring at 4:15 when running back Brent Donley capped off a 10-play, 64 yard drive that took 3:42 off the clock when he scored on a one yard touchdown run. Jake Heaphy added the PAT to make the score 7-0 in favor of the Polar Bears.

Ohio Northern then exploded for three second quarter touchdowns, with the first coming with 11:36 left in the half when Seadrk Marshall scored on a 13-yard run and Heaphy added the PAT. On the ensuing B-W possession, ONU blocked a Yellow Jacket punt which was returned one yard by Chad Coward for the Polar Bear TD.  Heaphy added his third PAT with 10:01 remaining to make the score 21-0 ONU.

The Polars Bears then added another score with only 10 seconds to go before halftime when Michael Bush caught a one yard TD pass from quarterback Kyle Simmons, which capped off a six play and 49-yard ONU drive.  Heaphy's PAT made the score 28-0 ONU.

In the second half, Simmons tossed another two TD passes, one to Jordan Chopp and another to Justin Linzy from 28 and 19 yards, respectively.  ONU's Marvin Mitchell also scored on a 34-yard fumble return in the fourth quarter for ONU.  The lone BW score came courtesy of junior running back John McGraw (North Ridgeville) who scored on a two-yard TD run with 7:47 left in the game. 

BW was led offensively by sophomore wide receiver Devon Jennings (Euclid) who caught 10 passes for 60 yards. Junior running back Kyrell Crook (Columbus/St. Francis DeSales) led the BW ground attack with 18 carries for 65 yards.  Defensively, B-W was led in tackles by sophomore outside linebacker Brett Thompson (Shelby) and junior OLB Ryan Kish (Amherst/Steele) who each had 10 stops. Thompson also had two tackles for loss and a sack.

Ohio Northern piled up 384 yards of total offense, including 252 on the ground. Individually, Donley led the Polar Bears with 27 carries for 151 yards and a score.  Marshall added 11 carries for 67 yards and a TD. Simmons was 9-for-18 passing for 132 yards and three TD.  For the Polar Bear defense, Jeremy Wyant had 10 tackles and Josh Horn had nine.
