Gough's Gamw-Winner Puts BW in OAC Championship Game

WESTERVILLE, Ohio- -  Sophomore defender Kelly Gough (Hudson) scored her seventh goal this season and the game-winning goal at the 81:22 mark as the fourth-seeded Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team defeated top-seeded Otterbein University, 2-1, on Thursday evening at Memorial Stadium to advance to the 2014 Ohio Athletic Conference Championship Game.

With its win, BW (11-8-3) travels to Columbus to play third-seeded Capital University on Sunday, November 9 at 2 p.m. The Yellow Jackets will try to earn their second OAC title since 1992. The other was in 1998.

BW took a 1-0 lead when it scored the first goal of the game at the 26:40 mark as junior forward Cheryl Bell (Piqua) knocked in a header goal from the top of the box.  Bell's goal was her sixth of the season. Freshman defender Courtney Schutz (Mentor) was credited on her team-leading 10th assist of the season.

Otterbein (12-3-4) answered back to tie the score at 1-1 at the 34:44 mark when sophomore forward Madison Burchfield scored via an assist by Kylee Tuchfarber.  The score remained 1-1 at halftime.

In the second half, Gough scored the game-winning goal to lift the Yellow Jackets to a victory.  Schutz was credited on her second assist of the game. The assist by Schutz was her school single-season record 11th and broke the previous record of 10 set by Josie Sanfilippo in 1994 and tied by Katy Mey in 1996.

Overall, the Yellow Jackets attempted eight shots, including seven on goal, and took four corner shots.  Junior goalkeeper Emily Tallmadge (Fairview, Pa./ Fairview) saw 12 shots at the net and saved two to earn her 11th win this season.
