BEREA, Ohio - The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team shutout Waynesburg (Pa.) University, 2-0, on Wednesday evening on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium.
In the first half, BW (2-5-1) found the back of the net at the 28:53 mark. Junior midfielder/forward Alex Elliot (Blacklick/IMG Academy) scored her first goal of the season. Elliot scored from the top of the box into the far right corner of the net. Freshman midfielder Anna Poptic (Dublin/Jerome) was credited on her first assist of the year. BW would add to the lead as Poptic would kick her second goal of the year to put Baldwin Wallace up, 2-0, at the 35:52 mark. Sophomore Bree Gilliam (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood) was credited on the assist. BW outshot Waynesburg (3-3-2) 10-2 in the first stanza.
In the second half, neither team was able to find the net. Baldwin Wallace played a tough defensive game for the 90 minutes. BW outshot Waynesburg 17-3 and had nine shots on goal to WU's zero shots. Junior goalkeeper Emily Tallmadge (Faiview, Pa./Fairview) earned her second shutout of the season.
The BW women will remain at home as it will host Defiance University this Saturday afternoon in a twin bill, September 27 on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium. Kickoff will begin at 1 p.m. followed by the BW men, which will kickoff at 3:30 p.m.
