BW Earns Third Shutout of Season and Beats Defiance, 3-0

BEREA, Ohio-- The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team shut out visiting Defiance College, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium. The victory was BW's second straight by shutout.

In the first half, BW (3-5-1) scored the first points of the match at the 16:08 mark when freshman defender Courtney Schutz (Mentor) kicked her first goal of the season when she drilled a 25-yard shot from the top of the box.
Baldwin Wallace continued to attack the net against a timid Defiance (2-7) defense in the first half asjunior All-Ohio Athletic Conference forward Cheryl Bell (Piqua) booted her first goal of the season when she slid the ball past DU's goalkeeper June Delgreco at the 38:21 mark to give the Yellow Jackets a 2-0 lead. Sophomore defender Natasha Ustaszewski (Lewis Center/ Olentangy) was credited on the assist. In the first stanza, BW outshot Defiance, 10-1, including a 7-0 advantage in shots on-goal.

In the second half, BW continued to generate offense against DU's defense. At the 51:29 mark, junior defender Alex Elliot (Blacklick/ IMG Academy) knocked in a header for her second goal of the season for a 3-0 victory. Freshman midfielder Lauren Haynam (Minerva) was credited with her second assist this season.
In goal, junior All-OAC keeper Emily Tallmadge (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) faced three Defiance shots, including one on-goal, and made one save as she earned her third shutout this season and the 15th of her career.

The women will remain at home and faces non-league foe Bethany (W.Va.) College on Tuesday, September 30. Kickoff will begin at 7:30 p.m.
