MARIETTA, Ohio- - The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Marietta College, 6-1, Friday afternoon to earn its seventh victory this season and third straight.  The win also kept the Yellow Jackets in first place in the OAC.

In the first half, neither team was able to find the back of the net.  It was a tough defensive effort by both BW (7-6-1, 3-0 OAC) and Marietta (1-11-1, 1-2 OAC) that resulted in a scoreless first stanza.  The Yellow Jackets attempted seven shots near the net and had four shots on goal.

In the second half, BW tallied the first goal of the game at the 53:24 mark when freshman defender Kori Miller (North Olmsted/ Parma Heights Holy Name) scored from six yards out for her first goal of the season and in her collegiate career for a 1-0 lead.

Just more than two minutes later, the Yellow Jackets added to their lead when sophomore defender Kelly Gough (Hudson) booted her fourth goal of the season at the 55:40 mark from 25 yards out at the back left corner of the net. Freshman defender Courtney Schutz (Mentor) was credited with her fifth assist.

Miller continued to attack the net and had her second goal of the match at the 60:51 mark with an 18-yard shot from the top of the box over the goalkeeper to give BW a commanding 3-0 lead.  Marietta would score its lone goal at the 64:05 mark of the game by Layne Archer with Sydney Willis being credited on the assist.

BW then scored three unanswered goals in a span of two minutes  to seal its win. Junior forward Cheryl Bell (Piqua) scored her third and fourth goals of the season, respectively. The first was at the 69:34 mark with a header to make it 4-1, and and then she smashed an 18-yard boot through the back of the net at the 71:59 mark for a 5-1 lead.  Schutz and Miller were credited on the assists.  Junior midfielder/forward Alex Elliot (Blacklick/ IMG Academy) ended the barrage with her team-leading seventh goal of the season at 73:31.

Baldwin Wallace outshot Marietta, 19-12, and led in shots on-goal, 13-9.  Junior goalkeeper Emily Tallmadge (Fairview, Pa./ Fairview) earned her seventh win and defended eight shots between the pipes.

BW, which has played four straight home games away from the "friendly confines" of The George Finnie Stadium, returns home and plays OAC-rival the University of Mount Union on Wednesday, October 15 at 7 p.m. on Tressel Field.
